Default valve springs help

can I change them without taking the head off or will they fall through the block?

Can be changed with the head on. Turn the engine over so that the cylinder you are working on is on TDC to be safe.

The stem seals normally stop the valves dropping through.

Take care not to drop a collet though!!

take the spark plug out and fill the space left in the cylinder by using a ball of string as another way of stopping valve dropping!
