Default T28 Roller bearing turbo's

I am looking at a Series 1 that is running a T28 Roller bearing turbo on instead of a T3 as usual.

What are the pro's and Cons of these Turbos??

Better spool up time. The problem is, they can't be repaired, so if your oil seals go like mine has, it becomes a paper weight.

its still a t28. t3 will deliver more power but the roller bearing one will do it a littel faster

T28 doesnt really describe a turbo very fully TBH, its just telling you what ballpark its in.

Tiff, try and find out who specced that turbo for the job its doing, if it was someone like Karl, then fantastic, cause its possible to make a great CVH with a T28 if you know what you are doing, if it was just picked at random off ebay, then steer clear.

You reckon?

Tonys = T34
Mine = GT28

Similar power. Mine is slightly higher.

Even a standard S14 T28 will push 280bhp, will a standard RST T3 do that? Will it fuck.

Hell, a standard S13 T25 will push about 250, n thas a good bit more than a standard RST T3.

Numbers mean next to fuck all if you dont know the spec of it.

Ive got one that they also sell on american ebay for the S13, and ive dismantled it right down to its individual components to check the quality.

And its just as well made (hell, its damn identical) to a genuine GT28R from Garrett.

So dont think all stuff people sell on fleabay is junk, just cause its not wildly overpriced like most stuff.

(TBH, ive never seen any glued together T28s, only think ive seen was some T3/4 style turbos a few years ago, which were copies or copies, which was a bit bizzare)

heard? but have you seen? internet is full of crappy rumour, 99% of people who talk about these things have NO experience of them and just heard from someone else, whos usually heard from someone else, and so on.
there are shit ones, but from what ive seen of PROOF, they a massive minority rather than what it seems when you listern to the people with no actual experience of em.

either way, regarding the turbo on the S1, T28 means next to nothing.

could be made up of god knows what parts, i mean if it used a T28 exhaust housing itd need the manifold flange adapting, and if used 90% of T28 compressors itd need the inlet pipe adaping.

it totally depends what the spec is.

TBH it tells you nothing more (if anything, less :Cry: ) than saying a car has a T3 on it.

generally they better tho, prob at least as much power if not more, with as good if not better spoolup

yes but when you consider that a company glues some of their turbos and you hear it about another one in the same production line it's beliveable, sorry if i was wrong, but why would a company simply glue some of the products together and then take time on one's what won't take all the abuse and boost pressure? it's unpredictable of what the products will be like and surely that's not a good thing when i turbos spinning at 100,000 rpm

JHW- if you knew the proper story youd know they DIDNT glue any of their turbos, thats my point

The glued together pics were COPYS of their turbos (well not a copy, just another ind of turbo with their name on it, not even with the right logo really), why anyone would copy a brand that isnt good is beyond me (well i think its cause they are a big name where the copys were also made, ie china), but there you go.

Same as there were fake MasterPower turbos a while back, which is daft too, but gave them a bad name even tho the real ones are just as good as Garretts (hell, the company was started by ex garrett employees)

oh sorry for the misunderstanding, so you posted the photos of the copied ones (copied one you bought but you bought the first copy?) so effectively they are a copy of a copy (not the one you bought)

my bad i'll take my

I've got a GT28 on my escos as does Ian3dr and we both run over 400BHP on our cars, there is so many different types, mine has a modified T34 compressor housing that hides a T4 compressor wheel

Gonna be changing next year though cause I want 450 ish BHP

GT30 or T38?? mmmmmm

GT3071R should see around 450 with good spool up or GT3076 with a slightly slower spool up.

People are confusing a T28 with a GT28......

That sounds fine Tiff. The standard T3 only spools to full boost at around 3k anyway so at 2.2k, it should be quite drivable. You could probably run that turbo at 18 psi held too which should take it well over 200bhp.

Tiff, just buy the car! If you don't like how the turbo comes in, simply change it for a different one!
