help car problems.... :(
As Petrol prices are high I thought I had a solution yesterday, but I may have made a mistake.
The RS has more than enough power for normal town driving, so I figured I could get away with diluting the petrol a little. I waited until the tank was 3/4 full, and then topped it off with water, so that I would have a 75/25 petrol/water mixture. The thinking being i could save a load on petrol over the next few months.
This morning I started the car to go to work, but I didn't make it to the end of my street before the car started stumbling and making strange noises. Then it died completely and it won't start up again.
Can someone help me? I'm not sure what I did wrong. I've heard that fuel cell cars are powered by water, so I wouldn't think that a little water would cause any trouble.
have I caused serious damage or is the problem unrelated?
Cheers
Paul

the basic density of water is 1kg per litre and petrol is about 0.785 per litre so the fuel will have gone to the top of the tank and the water will have settled on the bottom so all your getting through is neat water with a slight residue of fuel. so yes you will have caused damage, and the water will not be flushed through hard enogh even if you do clear the tank and try flush it through so you will need to change all your fuel lines and the tank probably, but could get away with flushing the tank and fitting a good filter like they use on aircraft fuelling called and fws which holds 9 coalescer filters to get rid of the water. basssssiccccaly your fooked

the car drove fine after i added the water, its only what petrol stations probably do anyway to "stretch" the petrol further?
i really think it may be the AF map ford put on, i know Kev H had problems with his after they done it. Think i'll call them tomorrow and complain.

I can't believe this is serious surely.
I've got quite a lot of spare beer that my missis's mum and dad brought us back cheap from Spain at Ł5 a case. I think I'll try that in the Cossie tomorrow, surely that must be high enough octane to run it, it is 5% proof.

You don't get whats funny?
Petrol = Oil
Water = Not Oil
Oil, and water, do not mix!
To say the very least you will be lucky if you haven't snapped the crankshaft as water does not compress!!!! This is the same reason you shouldn't drive a car through very deep floods............
