open a dispute on the item with ebay, then at least you will get your commission back. You can also offer it to the underbidder. If you leave bad feedback for him you will get bad feedback in return so don't bother. It happens because there are so many dickheads on ebay these days.

im in the same boat, some fuckin donkey won the auction then decided he didnt want it and told me via email, then when i opened the non paying bidder dispute he began to lie his arse off
negative feedback will be left for him, will do him worse than it will do me
thing that pisses me off is the fact that he can leave me negative feedback afterwards what right has he to leave me anything, we havent done a deal of any sort, im the one who has been badly done to, just like AJC!

File for an non-paying bidder and when its granted, then leave them neg feedback.
If they then leave you neg you can dispute it and as you will have been granted non-payment, ebay "should" remove the feedback if you state it is out of spite.
It worked for me
