Default escort cossie diffs - options!?

on an escort cossie, or even a 4wd saph to that fact!
is anyone running different diffs atall - wether it be a quaife, gripper or even plated!??

i know its been covered a few times in the past for 2wd, but whatrs the best combination for the 4wd with choices on both the diffs?

Basically...
i smashed my rear diff to pieces and chewed the splines thru on the pinion aswell, kinda fed up now of braking transmission parts so think its time to go for the stronger options.

in my hunting for a new diff today ive had various options offered to me, the first being a plated rear diff.

anyone had any experience with using a plated rear diff, or what combination of diffs are sugested for both the front and rear.... ie, quaife front with plated rear or best to go for both quaife ATB units?

Cheers

Kelv.

Default DIFFS

Destroyed 2 gearboxes myself so have been affected by the 4x4 illness. if you are looking to replace with stronger items I would say quaife all day long

in the last 200 miles ive broken the front diff, then snapped the mainshaft in the gearbox and then 2 days ago the rear diff.

in your opinion Charlie of saying Quaife, do you run your car with both Quaife diffs?

Mark, as for the plated diff, is there different variants of plated rears, id guess there must be with the plates that have different pressure/ friction levels.

just a tad confused with it all and dont want to waste money getting the wrong parts... but certainly happy to spend the money upgrading whatever is needed.

yes pre-load can be varied dependant on manufacturer and use for the vehicle.
im just in the middle of converting mine to 4wd after many years of 2wd, i have run plated rear diffs for over 8 years, and never broken one.( i dont use ford items). ive delayed the 4wd conv for along time because a, the cost, and b, finding a transmission system that i was prepared to use for the right money, up to now, the rebuild and the purchaseing of transmisison parts to TRY and make something a little reliable i have spent over 3K, and i already had a rear diff for the job. having used quaifes atb in the past, i wont be waisting my money again, but, that was a 2wd, and , (although they sometimes deny it) the atb has been modified (cause it wasnt as good as they said) but some people like them, for my line of use, an ATB would just fook the vc in no time.

yes pal , as long as the diff is of the std ford size , i.e if you used a 3.9 from a 7" then it must be another 7",

I don't have quaife diffs in my car but i know a man who does, he swears by them and rates them as decent kit. I would love to fit both diffs and a gearbox (quaife) but it would cost a fair whack of the old £ notes
