Rust in all the places as above.

Mk5's tend to rust around the filler cap and rear arches worst of all!

Engine wise check for rough idling which can be the ISCV (Idle Speed Control Valve) Often all they need is blowing out and cleaning!

Check for misfires through the rev range this can often be due to knackered coils which are around Ł65 and there are two of them!

Good strong engine but they can be a bit tappety so have a close listen.

They are around Ł250

Other than that its just the usual things when buying any used car.

Filler caps and rear chassis legs are your main problems, get right under the back and have a good dig about on the chassis as it isnt always evident, and the filler cap dont just look at the outside as thats the last place it shows up a small spot of rust on the outer means its well rotten on the inner wing.

Oh and sills behind the kit rot and floor pan where it joins the bulkhead
