Default Anyone know anything about VW Beach Buggy's? *Started!!*

My Bro in law has one in a lock up that he gave up on after having twins boys and wanted me to see I could get it going.
I take it they are just VW Beetles underneath? Anyone recommend a web site of fourm to read up on them? Passion Buggy or something

is it a proper Baja bug, or just a beetle with a bigger engine?

Aye there just beetle floorpans, engine, box, from axle and all that is still there with a fibre body chucked on. Same applies for most 550 spyder,356 roadster/speedster's.

Got it started!
Bit of air in one of the tyres, New battery, set of leads/sparks a fuel hose which had perished and general lube up and it started... well after we had sorted the firing order as we had made a school boy error and took the leads off without rememebering where they went

It was bloody loud!

Pulled out of the lockup

After I got the windowlene out and brushed it down

My bro in law drove it 6 miles to a better lock up and it was spluttering and popping the whole way at 20-30mph We think its over fueling so now I've gotta do some homework on the carb anyone got any pointers??

Someone I know used to have one of these in black, we went out for a cruise with it. The gimp had a huge playboy flag hanging off the back of it!

His had a raised back part where you could sit down looking over the top of the front seats - was really scary when he pulled away quickly (well as quickly as it can go lol), we had to hold on tight to the roll over bar!

Stupid thing is - we never got pulled over in it despite the fact it was so bloody unsafe!

These were designed for use on the beach though - I wouldn't want to try driving quickly over a sand dune in one of those things!

It does grab people's attention though - I recommend carrying Super Soakers and soaking birds with white t-shirts on!
