The first batch of RP lab items will be rolled out to the tuners first and once these are in place, it will then be offered out to general public.

Once these have been on the market for a while, then the P8 version will then be rolled out along with an eight injector upgrade for the L8.

The RPLab one is only for L8 AFAIK, so if you have any other ecu you will need to upgrade to an L8 first.
so will this be a emulater then you programme the chip ?

SO WHAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO DO IN TIME IS RUN L8 THEN IF I GO TO A P8 I CAN JUST TRANSFER THE MAP CORRECT ?

SO IN TIME I CAN TAKE THE MAP FROM UPDATED L8 TO A NEW P8 AM I CORRECT ? IN TIME I MEAN ?

You won't need an emulator, the ECU will talk to you lap top through the data-stream communication lead.

You can't transfer data from L8 to P8, as the P8 uses a higher definition map (i.e. it has lots more mapping points).

Well thats kind of true mike, you could pretty easily copy your L8 map accorss manually and just interpolate by putitng values midway between where the points are different.

So you could certainly use the L8 map as a very good basemap on the P8 at least

locking it whos got the right to lock it it isnt the tuners product or software , can understand it if a tuners his ptotecting his software in the ways of building the chip and licenced to that company . so is this ecu going to be sold by a tuner going to be licenced to them and them only ?

If i was going to pay 850.00 for a 15 year old ecu which is upgraded (i might add a clever one ) as karl bangs on about how good the weber is and rightly so, id want know that at any time if theres a prob with it in can be accesed without having to go to the first tuner that set it up! but if its licenced the so be it,

by the way this is my opinoin not a dig

If it is purchased by a member of the public, it is up to them if they want to lock it or not. It will be available to buy as a complete tuning package for the amateur as well as the pro.
