Default Propper Upset

Dont want to go into to much detail as i am giving the person the chance to rectify it and save his ass.
Bought an item off here, and a few months down the line i have found out the item is STOLEN.
It was bought brand new and unused for a good price, i found out today that its deffo stolen and the police will contact me.
I have copies of the PMs and payment through paypal.
I am going to give a chance for him to refund me and no names will be mentioned, i feel i am in the right to disclose his details to the board and the police if not, apparently thet will contact me regarding where it was purchased and who from .

I would of course inform the police that it has NOTHING to do with passionford what so ever.

I feel i should give the guy a chance what do you think.
All i want is a refund, and as far as im concerned it was then bought down the pub,

AM I RIGHT

Thing is the "i bought it off a bloke in the pub" excuse is really rather piss poor if the cops wanna get funny about it i suppose they could do you for handling stolen goods which aint gonna be good really if you bought it in good faith and can prove that then your in the clear unfortunatly that wont get you your money back.

I suppose it depends on if you want your cash back or not if you really want it do you really want to take the risk that they may actually do you????

The police won't too kindly if you have returned it to the seller and this person re-sells it though or are you asking for a straight money back and give the item to the police?

sorry mate.. Im totally with you, but I still cant see how they had your address

unless, you were getting subscription.. they asked you for details, then serial number etc

sorry to hear about the bad news..

if you get your money back , then all sorted in my opinion. Maybe th chap didnt know what he was selling was stolen. I assume you have informed him??

Jase...

You only have one option mate which is to cooperate with the dibble and give them the unit and the receipt,if you give it back to the mush now the dibble could charge you with conspiracy as you are in effect conspiring with him to get shut of the evidence(he will probably just dispose of it)and then you are proper fooked.....

He stiffed you with it,let him sort it out with the plod.
I know none of this gets your money back but it could save you a prison sentence and the stigma of a criminal record....

Yeh co-operate with plod- doubt you'll be getting your money back to be honest.

Why you've asked on here though I don't know I'd have been straight on the phone to the person.

only reason to go on here is to name and shame from the start IMHO

Agree with the above - Let the Police know all. At the end of the day how would you feel say if someone Stole your car, sold it to someone and that person found out it was pinched and took it back for a "Refund" and then withheld the name of the person who it was purchased from?

Your just letting someone get away with theft (Not specificaly the person you purchased it from) and letting them do it again.

Apart from that How are you going to explain to the police "I took it back to the Pub for a refund"?

If someone on here is selling knocked off goods then I think you shouldn't let them get away with it by asking them for a refund and not telling the Police! That would be an easy way out for them and they are not discouraged from doing it again to more forum users!

name and shame I say!

i dont personally agree with the name and shame business usually, however in this case I think you should at least tell Stu or Pet because this person is using PF as a place to sell his stolen goods (ok, so were only sure of this item, but its likely not to be the only 1) and each and every one of us could be the next person to get ripped off.

cant the police still do people for receiving stolen goods?? if so and you back out of giving them it now they could do you for it?

if the above is right (and i'm not sure at all if it is), i actually dont think you have a choice in your next move tbh

Handling stolen goods is as big a crime as stealing it and you can get the same sentance i think.

Surely only if you knew they were stolen. If the add clearly says new and unwanted present then you aren't knowlingly buying stolen good.

if you bought a car that was stolen, found out it was stolen, took it back to the seller and said "give me my money back or i'll tell dibble" thats only going to get stolen stuff back into circulation

as hard as it sounds, you need to fully co operate with plod to make sure you get out of this with just a hole in your wallet
with electonic goods now, everything is traceable, and shopping the seller (ok, it's not exactly going to be pointing the finger and saying "there is he mr elderly william, and i'm sure you'll find a whole warehouse full of shady mechandice with dubious history" but at least you can say you are doing your bit, tell them who you bought it from, the circumstances they sold it to you under and how much you paid for it etc etc and just hope that it's all a misunderstanding

hope everything works out for the best, in that you get your money back and everything gets cleared up without getting unsociable

Not very bright of the person to advertise it only a week after it was stolen, especially if he knew it was stolen.

It makes more sense to sell it on quickly especially if its traceable when trying to register it. Also while there is demand for it, it needs to be moved.

Cheers Guys.

The police will be taking the item anyway, they may need it as evidence further down the line,

Please remember i dont know if the guy who sold it to me was aware it was stolen.

I bought it in good faith for a fair price, im not worried about the police in the respect of recieving stolen goods as i have a receipt, Emails and it was bought unbeknowing, i have discussed this with a friend who is a copper and he said dont worry,

im pisssed of more because not only have i lost the best part of £250, i now have to spend another £300 to buy a replacement

I really could do with the money back

thats about as fair as it can get though jase
i'd be mightly pissed off too, but i think it's understandable to everyone here, we'd all be a bit narked if plod came knocking on the door asking for stuff we'd bought in good faith

keep us posted with any updates, if you've bought stuff from this person then perhaps others have also fallen victim to the same sort of event (not that i'm calling the person jase bought his stuff from a swindler, not by any means )
