Default Any nitro RC people on here..

I know I have asked before, but having another problem with my RC car.

Finally got my Cen FunFactor working yesterday after replacing the 47 tooth spur gear and fiddling with the setup.

Now after running this for 10 minutes, we lost complete drive and after inspection the spur gear had worn teeth all round and 2 teeth missing.

Any ideas why this would happen?

hiya mate. This happened to me and it turned out that the screws mounting the engine to the chassis had become loose. even if it's 1mm out of line it will wear.

Mine was an HPI racing job mind you. But the principle is the same

We moved the engine closer to the spur gears as there seemed too much play between the spurs and the pinions.

if its too tight that can damage it aswell.

best to line them up with a bit of tissue between them.

my mate melted the teeth on his spur gear, either overheated the clutch or the engine was very lean.

Tissue btween them
Between the pinion and spur gear? surely this wouldn't then make contact at all?

Mate, did this happen after you crashed it by any chance? Coming to a sudden stop ain't good or maybe you got a stone in there but that normally strips all the teeth. To setup the mesh just push the engines pinion into the spur gear until the teeth are meshed in as far as they will go, but don't put to much pressure behind it or the mesh could be to tight. Hope this helps

do not do that! unless you wanna buy another set of spur gears... best way is to put paper not tissue between the gears.. push them together hardish, tighten up the engine bolts and rotate spur gears until paper is out and that should give you a nice meshing with a little play in which is perfect

Yeah, What he said.

this has been caused because you pushed the spur gears too tight together, they heated, broke the two teeth and that took the rest out.

Expensive hobby isnt it! I sold mine a while ago, but been dying for anoher one for a while.

I raced in the HPI challenge Nitro stock class, came out as Champion as well using said method above and my car never once stripped any gears. What I am saying is mesh the gears but don't force them together, just keep some light pressure on the engine while you do up the screws, never heard of using paper before and as it is only 0.1mm thick anyway surely it just gets all ripped up in the gears making no difference. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

Thanks for all your help.. Ordered a new spur gear which I'll pick up on Friday.. May let the model shop have a look and setup the car for me.

I haven't crashed the cash, it had an impact prior to me owning it as swing arm was bent, but have replaced everything since then.

Cheers again

Andy

Was looking at metal gears, but ther eis obviously a problem if the plastic ones last 5 mins. All other cars seems fine on them so not looking at spending Ł70 on a set yet.

Thanks for the reply.
