Default FITTED AP CLUTCH IN FRST WON'T GO IN GEAR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have just fitted a AP Stage one with Organic plate (not paddle) & now it just will not go in gear

clutch was replaced while engine was out of car & i thought it would be a good time to upgrade!,worked perfect with standard clutch had no probs up untill i fitted the AP

phone the company that sold me the clutch, they told me that i have to do NO modifactions as its a direct fit.

could it be to do with the quadrent in the peadle box?

any ideas or help appriciated

Press the clutch pedal down and get some to look under the bonnet to see have far the arm is moveing, this will tell you if its in the pedal, cable. area or its the clutch its self.

my mate had the same problem, we got it working by pressing the pedal down, holding the clutch arm in place on the top of the box and releasing the pedal, this can help it ratchet up. it worked ok but he kept loosing his pedal cos his quadrant was fooked. he ended up fitting the mk5 unit i think with no problems since.

yes plate is in the correct way around!

the only thing i have noticed with the new clutch is the "Fingers" on the cover are a lot flatter than on the standard item

could this be an issue with bearing not getting enough pressure???

only reason i can tink of as we have tried everything

for a quick fix, take the cable off at the gearbox end & put a few sump washers on the the end of the outer cable where it sits on the gearbox.

tried two "M6" nuts with slits cut in them behind the "clutch fork" but this has'nt made it any better

still recon is to do with quadrent under pedal

mk 6 pedal is the best option, easy job on an escort turbo, but not sure if it fits straight into a fiesta, i think the pedal is a different shape.

quote by ap

When fitting the AP 4 paddle clutch, the company recommend you carry out this modification. The standard auto-adjust pedal's ratchet system can't take the additional pressure of the high-pressure clutch cover used with the paddle clutch, and they give up as mine did. Basically, your gears will become hard to engage, then your pedal will go to the floor and you'll have no clutch at all, so do this modification!

There was a Technical Service Bulletin for this problem.

In fact, on my AP fast road clutch I fitted it even advised to change the clutch pedal.

When I fitted the clutch the clutch worked, but I had to double declutch it to change gear properly - luckily I didn't have to drive it everyday.

A mate of mine on fiestaturbo.com listed the FINIS codes for the bits you'll need to convert your clutch pedal to manual adjustment.

Cheers,

Andy
