Default Refitting a sweated on joint

Can this be done-my mate is trying to put one back on his 500 and it is a complete bastard of a job-are there any tips for getting them back together?
It's the return fuel line to the fuel rail if that helps

it's probably the fuel supply to the rail, not the return. the return is from the regulator.

why do people break that joint, it's so easy to undo it properly at the springlok connector
