Default FAO NUTS RS or anyone into rallying... using a s2 rst...

went to a local ralley for the first time today, and i fookin loved it!

and it got me thinking...

now, i have a crash damaged s2,pic is of o/s/r wheel

now i cannot affort to get it repaired at a bodyshop, and if it isnt perfect, ill be pissed off evertime i see it, so therefore a diy repair wont be good enough.

but considering how looks dont matter in a rally car thats going to be abused and probably crashed, i could diy it.

as im only 20 and skint, id be on a very tight buget, but i could do 90% of the work myself, and have friends who would be willing to help out on the day.

i noticed that there was 205's scoobys, saffs, escos's, mk1 escort, mk2's, evos, astras (and a fookin rapid RWD mk3 fiesta with a millington engine) etc but there were no mk3/4 escorts. some of em were slow as fook, like some of the 205's and a citroen ax, so surely i wouldnt come last? i know id never beat an escos but that wouldnt be the point.

as starters id give the engine a rebuild, chip, cooler, magnex, setup etc so id be running a fairley reliable and useable 170bhp

i have a newly rebuilt box with standard LSD

fit polybushes, adj tca's, strut brace, i have a fairely new g-max kit that may do (opinions please), i could make a roll cage, stip her out etc etc, just the basics for starters.

i have 2 unknown make bucket seats that came in my new cabby, and are now in my garage as i fitted my recaros for everyday use. will these be ok to start with considering they wont be FIA blah de blah

i would get a cheap helmet and a cheap race suit etc (the essentials)

what else would be needed? bearing in mind i wont be entering anything too serious, just the smallish events like today.

what tyres would i need (as cheap as poss!) i noticed the surface was really bad in places (was a forest event with a bit of an old runway thrown in), and loads of cars had flats, or crashes. surely my s2 would bottom out everywhere with a gmax kit? what could i do to sort it?

i know it wont be cheap, but as cheap as poss!

thanks for any help, and sorry for the long post

to do any sort of stage rallyin the car has to be log booked by the msa which means it needs proper roll cage, seats, belts, safety equiment install, you would b better off gettin competition stuff rather than stuff designed for road use like g max as it will get distroyed, you will also need a competition licence for stage rallyin aswell, thelist goes on.there is also road rallyin which is cheaper to getin2 or there sprints and hill climbs, look on www.msauk.org and find a local motor club

Cheap rallying?

Even a single venue is a fortune. Budget Ł500 for a weekend, with entry costs, fuel, tyres, acommodation, food etc etc....

to start in spritin in you need the bear min of a approved cage, seat and belts and a electric cut off, the class's are alot more open and you need less mods to the car, its you against the clock on a track so there are no other cars 2 get in your way, there held on smooth tarmac/race tracks most of the time so less damagin to the car than rallin, info and link here

I would ove to do this as well, and was told the reason there are no/very few RST's is because they would have to compete with other turbo'd cars such as cossies & scoobs etc, which is why there are so many N/A engines(mk1's & Mk2's etc)

good luck tho, if i had the budget i would love to do it
