Default Proper head f**k

In a dilema

Love my Monte it the best looking and built RS I've had so far (and so far the most reliable) but......

I'm very quickly getting bored of it, It's almost a perfect stage 3 now with 338bhp and 359lbs, got the 18's, AP 6 pots, Koni's and Ahmed Springs and a Magnex. To finish it off I intend to get a decent clutch and Ahmed's Group-A rear beam. I'm happy with the condition and minted up every area on it and when I eventually find front upper bumper spoiler it will be perfect in my eyes.

The problem is as you can tell from the Fiesta I had I'm quite competative and the Escort just isn't fast enough, I want to do great things with the Monte Like I did with the Fiesta.. its just perfection costs massivly on 4x4 Cossie's.

Ideally my spec would be around 450bhp.. fix-it gearset with shotpeened polished 'box. ATB front and rear diffs with the thick wall front case and the power and torque lower down where I want it.
..but your talking probably £15K for that little lot

Just don't know which route to go, my opinions are:-

1. Try and get the dream spec sorted it will take a few years and cost a fortune.

2. Sell my Esc Cos and buy another Esc Cos with a Spec closer to the above.

3. Keep the Monte and Start another FWD project for my competative side.. I worked out I could build my old Fiesta again for less then the price of the cosworths engine rebuild.

4. Sell the Monte and buy a 3dr and build a mental FWD project

5. Not do anything and enjoy the Stage 3 Esc Cos and find another hobby

Any input guys would be great. Some of you must have been there!

Buy one closer to the spec imo....

I did that with the saph- 400/400 harvey conversion- and i prefer it to my esc!

Alternatively swap your M3 with DaveEscos!

Instead of wanting to make your car faster spend your time learning to drive it faster? Fuck me, 300+ bhp and 4x4 is more than enough for the road. I always read about these cars on here that are 600bhp etc and it always makes me wonder what on earth people do with them. There are only a handfull of drivers in the world who could really drive a 300 bhp escos to it's limits on the road.

Maybe I just have different ideas to everyone else but in someways i'm kind of glad I only have my little old xr2. I'd love an evo and have been thinking about getting one for a long time but the main thing I worry about when looking at them is that fact that I feel totally comfortable driving at silly speeds on country lanes in my xr2 which has very little power, handles kind of ok but due to it being lowered before I got it likes to try and bounce me off the road at every possible chance. I know for a fact that i'd feel alot more comfortable in an evo on the same roads at alot higher speeds as when i've driven other peoples faster cars i've found myself looking at my speedo when out for a blast and being suprised by what speed im actually doing.

i would say keep the escort...make it into a PROPER handling motor (fun for track days and those a roads) and build a monster car on the side for your sprint car...

thats what id do anyway lol

Hmmm thats for the inputs guys its appriecated
I seriously think I'd regret selling the Monte and at the same time I don't want to ruin it by stripping it out or spend another £15k on it either.

no. 3 is my favorite opinion but the other issue I have is whether I want another RS FWD as like I did with the series one project and 2nd Fiesta Turbo I find myself trying to make them mint and original at the same time. If I truely want to be competative I think I should be looking at the lightest shell possible, my most serious thoughts have been on a finding a mk5 Fiesta van, I was offered a minter for £1500 last month but bottled it.
My reasons for the mk5 van are that its newish so no rust issues when I strip it down. Its the lightest most basic spec Fiesta esp on the rear where I need to lose weight, it can fit the latest type Zetec easier and also its the sleeper element... I'd keep the steelie's, black bumper and hide all the performance and even keep the standard seats as all I'll be doing is quarter miles. Plus I won't be so bothered about garaging the van or being my usual bufftyness

Sound like a plan?

Cheapest way to do it and it's then what you want. It'll do the 1/4 for you as a pace you want, it's light, it'll be relatively cheap to build, you won't be polishing it every weekend yet have a refined and nice 'toy' to go out to play in (Monte).

The way I'd do it.

Depends what you want to do with the car.

You say you're mega competitive - in what?

Racing? Track day? Or Just competitive in spending loads of money on a car to never be satisifed.

I made that mistake - spending thousands trying to build a car that handled, when I could have just bought a car that handled better for half the money.

I'm well out of all that modifying, spending thousands lark. Saw the light a little while ago - unless you're gonna play with the big boys, cosworth/skyline way, it just isn't worth it IMO.

Totally depends what the purpose of the car is to be though.

Sprint/Quarter mile competative it wasn't long along I had the fastest 0-60 0-100 and quarter mile. I still retain the 0-60 but the 0-100 and quarter where both beaten by my own car I'd sold!

But that's my point Paul.

You build the Fiesta to do a 12 second quarter after spending 20k on it, when you can go and buy an R33 and have it do that without breaking a sweat for the same money.

£20K wtf! I'm looking at 7-8K at the most!

The point is its a project, my mate has a 560bhp skyline and it bored the back teeth off me, put your foot down and it's fast.. You buy a skyline and a few mods later its silly fast.. two weeks later i'd be selling it because i'd be bored as it would have hit its peak then where do you go then?

Making a FWD Fiesta sleeper the produce sub 13's is awesome! Its a project that will last ages, building it to your own spec, experimenting with different grip setups and contantly looking for weight lost areas etc

you would be gutted selling the monte mate one of not many left and they always gonna hold there price if not rise imo, go for a right sleeper you can toy with that is not going to break the bank, why not a kit car of some sort with a turbo cvh in it??????

It sounds as if you loved being Top Dog in your previous car, but the Cossie is an all different League to get to the Top of.
To snatch any of the Cosworth records now will take a Lot of time, money & experience & that comes over a long oeriod of time. I personally would love 10 more rwd cars trying to be competative, but there aint cos its hard & cost mega bucks, 50/70k min in an Escort to challenge Martin. You wont do 200mph for much less either.

If being competative is what you want maybe go back to where you were, then again no doubts Sunny will make that a lost cause in a few months time.

Sell the Cossie and get an Evo 6 or 7

Either that or keep the Cossie and invest in a nice Series 1 to mint up as a hobby. Good ones as we all know are getting rarer now.

that pretty much hits the nail on the head, don't get me wrong I never wanted to be the best with the Cos or compete on top speed but I just can jusify spending £15k on the Monte for it to be only a bit faster then my Old fiesta in a straight line. Track days is the way forward with the Monte, and a new FWD is the way forward for the sprints.

Gotta plan
