good spec cossie yb at home????
ive recently moved and have a bit more space than ive had before!! so been thinking i might set up my shed as a little workshop.
is there a book "how to build a cossie yb" or somthing, cos its somthin ive always wanted to do!!!
so if i got a book which listed everything i would need and how to put it together is it posible to do it yourself????
if you think not then please say cos i dont wanna spend the money if its gonna be a lost cause if you know what i mean!!!!!

theres no reason why you couldnt, once you inderstand what you are doing
this is worth a little read, even though its to do with normally asperated YB's
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...938591-5127948
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...938591-5127948
that will give yo begining knowhow of how to build a half tidy engine! then you gotta learn what works with a yb, head gasket types, bolts, clearances and so on

PassionFord Post Whore!!
could work out to be a very expensive learning curve mate ,if you have the money to get it wrong then go for it
Personaly i dont think i would risk a top spec build .
Maybe start of with striping one down and rebuilding it a few times

this would be my plan........
buy a knackered old yb, strip it and put it together again.
get the basics then get a shopping list together of uprated parts and rebuild again using better bits.
not thinking of going nuts, maybe a reliable low comp 300ish BHP engine. i dont need it now so it dont matter bout time scale or anything. just wanna get my hands dirty and learn some.
how much would it cost for a knackered yb???
im gonna look on ebay now!!!!

Built my old rst engine in the conservatory No prior engine building experience but I am an engineer by profession. Ran sweet as a nut, Karl was impressed and she pulled my old shed down brunters at 153mph, not mad by todays rst's standards, but she was still on boggo KE with no 5th injector
I'd feel quite happy about having ago at a YB.

Fairly easily I'd say, I recently rebuilt my YB and have had no dramas at all, just make sure you use a trusted machine shop to carry out the work, I'm sure that you'll get tech help from guys on here
Good luck

Go for it, me and my mate built mine
As for low comp with 300 you won't need it but you might want more in the future so you have too decide if 300 is enough.

Interested in this idea myself as when i can move i'll be getting a place with a larger garage then the 3dr will get tucked away and might do the build if it isn't too hard.

surely it wouldnt hurt to go the low comp route???
if i done a 300ish low comp build now, in the future i can add all the necessaries at a later date if i wanted to go for more power, ie bigger intercooler, turb, and so on........
or not?? what you think???

think i need to do some research before i start the build. any know where i can get some guides on the subject.
like different ways to get the same result with varying parts. and depending on what your final end result would want to be.
for instance, if i wanted in the end to have say 450 bhp, if i were to do the build in three stages what bits to do the build with on first second and third part of the build. like build one for say 300, then to take it to 375, then to 450.
please say if this is not possible if you get what i mean.
cheers

I'm no cosworth expert but if you were going to go in stages you'd be best starting with higher spec internals IE steel rods, forged pistons etc.
The difference in 300bhp and 450 bhp would require different components. I would think that cam choice, compression ratio and the like would have to be specced to what your desired output would be.
I would have a go if your confident as you have plenty of people no here on hand to give good advice plus if you look in technical sections on here there are some cracking posts.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Why go for aftermarket steel rods and forged pistons when the spec he is aiming for in the future is 450bhp?
At 450bhp machined pistons and standard rods should be okay (albeit with uprated rod bolts.
I'm going to be building a diy yb this year hopefully.

if you want big power in the end you need to start with a 200 block and have it long studded if thats to much id go 4b4 pistons and valve cut outs new rod bolts and pump etc and your have a bottom end capable of up to 400bhp but 375 is safer on 205 block.that would be a good base

10K+ Poster!!
one of my mates just build a good YB and ge has no previous experence of cossie engines although he is a mechanic.
just make sure you use the correct tolerances for everything as i have came across a few people who have diff ideas of what right and wrong..
