I would hope that a lot of the seriously modified cars would still pass the "Super MOT" Its the lash ups that will suffer most.
Having said that I can see this being something of a stealth tax...

they cant just come out and ban modded cars..
that would put every tuner and aftermarket parts seller in this country
out of business!!!
Super MOTS will be fine... as long as they aint like mateys on here the
other week saying they gotta be a foot off the floor!!!

If it gets shitters off the road then that's good but it's just another way of screwing the motorist. what concerns me more is the ides banded about recently about havinga 'black box' in every car so they know how fast you were going at any given time, where you are etc. Thats what concerns me more at this moment in time. That really is an invasion of human rights.

Hi Lads
the way i look at it if it does come into force ....
if the car is done right .... it wont have any problem passing a super mot simple as that if it's just bodged then you probably have no chance
I welcome it , i think it's a good idea it will make people mod their car properly

marco polo,
I see what your saying and agree largely but the powers that be won't do it properly they will do it as a stealth tax and we will suffer as a result. Our modded cars have to pass the MOT anyway so are they saying the normal MOT is shit?

would it not be better to classify diferent types/levels of mods, then have to have them get an engineers report?
the system is already in place for getting write offs back on the road following a rebuild, so wouldnt this way of doing it be better?
Doing it at every MOT means its an additional cost evry year (result for the Govornment!) whereas getting an engineers report is a 1 off fee, then put a system in place so you have to produce the engineers report at MOT time.
whoops, my bad. Im sure the loss in potential new TAX revinue will kill that bad idea.
what was I thinking......

However, it would be intresting under a "Super MOT" to say that a RST can't be 6" from the ground whilst a F430 can be. Would be seen as very unfair.

At the end of the day you're modifying something that has been subject to a lot of testing for safety etc. thats what they are cracking down on. OK an d to make more money but you do see a lot of half arsed attempts on the road which are more of a safety risk than the standard car. I see it as a good thing, I'd rather some chimp in his shitty clapped out corsa fail his 'super' MOT because he hasn't fitted stuff right than see him pass a normal MOT with less of a harsh test.

(A) you slow down for other traffic
( B) stop for petrol ( at 170ish you aint gonna get 42mpg )
or the MOST LIKELY EVENT !!!!!
(C) ITS A COSSIE MATE,,,,,,,,,,,, ITS EITHER GONNA MELT OF BRAKE DOWN,,,,,,,, USUALLY BOTH THOUGH

Funny enough i'm familiar with the roads and streets in this country particular with the ones in london where i was born and bred, the text i wrote was intended to put accross that i don't like being suppressed and don't take things lying down, my cossie has never let me down when giving the filth the slip or tearing m3's to pieces, wouldn't own a helicopter the far to easy to knock out of the sky, 9mm hand gun would do the job nicely

We're talking about modded car owners getting ripped off with a Stealth tax to get more money out of us, and you're going on about 9mm guns shotting heliocopters out the sky
and I thought Ginge was bonkers

Mark - I think the point is, that unless your car is standard, you will have to go for a far higher level of scruitineering for the MOT, which cost more and take longer. Being of a higher level it's likely things you would have got away with in a regular MoT you will fail on, costing MORE money. Plus it's possibly the start of something new, which *could* ultimately end up in a ban on car modifications as other country's in Eurpoe already have....

This sort of legislation may make tuning very hard thing to do.
