Default Anyone know what the difference is between (gearboxes...)

If I remember correctly its the IB5 box in the XR2?

The late RS2000s had the MT75 and the 4x4 had the MTX75 is that right?

Whats the differences between these two boxes in tearms of mounting and size?

I was under the impression that the MTX75 was the 4x4 Cossis box and the RS2k used the normal box but with an additional transfer box on the drive shaft output.

I'm probably miles off the mark though

Hopefully so, have got a 2.0 Zetec which I am turboing, but tbh I really can't see the point in having all that power and running it only though the front wheels. Gonna take me a year or two before its finished.

You sure this is gonna make sence stu?

Ie all the money and effort and time is gonna be worth it for the fun you will get out of it once its done?

Thats a hell of a project there, almost nothing from the standard car will be of any use.

My GTR is a prime example, though its gonna be one of the maddest cars in the UK, I wish I hadnt of bothered, and TBH my S13 is a prime example of lots of fun for very little spent.

Be careful, seriously think about this, and whats gonna be the end result.

Ie how much time and effort and cash you gonna spend to make what in essence will be a what, 300bhp 1100kg 4wd car?

Good luck, but be careful.

I'm hoping to turn it into a pure track toy.

By my reconing even with the extra weight of the transmission the car should still weigh in at under a tonne (its around 800kg atm) so hopefully the fact that its light, 4x4 and has plenty of power should make it a wicked track wepon.... hopefully!

I'm still thinking about it very much, but tbh I'm still 50/50 about spending the money getting the work done, or just jacking it in and buying a RX-7, Supra, or even an old skyline.

The ib5 gear box is not an early box it is a late unit and later modified for the hydraulic clutch you see on most new fords now .

Regards Doug .

iB5 is a light duty box found in 1.6 and 1.8 escorts, fiestas, mondeos, and in Pumas also.

You'll need the MTX75 gearbox and transfer box out of an escort mk5 or mk6 RS2000 4x4, or perhaps the similiar setup found in mondeo 4x4s. I beleive the mondeo system is slightly stronger.
