how do you add a Double power socket?
i am in the middle of decorating my kitchen, and the walls are bare, i want to add another double power socket, and have been told i can "chase" from an existing socket, how do you do this? All the tiles etc are off so knocking a hole etc in the wall to hide the leads/power line etc isnt a prob

The chase is where you chisel a groove for the new cable to go into. That must be horizontal and/or vertical - not diagonal. If there is another socket nearby you should be able to take a spur from that to the new one.
Seem to recall something about only having one spur on a ring, but one of the sparks on here will say for sure.
I think a new rule means only qualified sparks are allowed to do new installations and this might come into that category.

Little tip for you, instead of using a chisel to chase the wall out use an angle grinder much easier and less elbow grease required

Its called a learning curve
And if the socket was wired in wrong then when it was used it would just pop the fuse or trip the metre out.

Don't offer advise to someone when you do not have the expertise to do so.

Quite what makes any human being less capable than the next, of screwing 3 wires into 3 terminals in the right order is quite beyond me also!

Disagree with the second statement, its not as black and white as that,( or red and black or brown and blue.)

so who PAT tests all their electical items before they use them, and every year thereafter?????
Yeah, there are regulations, agreed.. but bugger all to do with safety, just another instance of making you pay more money for stuff.. The qualification is a piece of paper, it bears little relation to the capability or competence of the person doing it.
The shit I've seen in some brand new house installations beggars belief.. and they will comply with all the regulations I'm sure
