Thinking about buying a Subaru Impreza P1

However they have a tendancy to understeer and as such I would never own one. Put the boot down in an Evo and it goes where u point it or over steers trying to go where u point it..... so much better

I've driven it though and preffered it to the Evo, so smooth and comfortable, just hate the knock link that blinks at you too much although I suppose that has its uses

As for the P1 very nice car's but personally i'd go for an evo over a subaru as they're better cars and you dont see anywhere near as many as you do scoobs (round here anyway) and most of the subarus you see are driven by girls these days.

I was going to buy a Cossie, but i must have some relaible form of reliability and the Evo has 3 years 60k warranty so thats it for me plus alot of Cossies are getting tired and ropey these days (i know if you look hard enough you will find) plus you can have some fantastic fun in the Evo getting it to slide, my Evo's standard at the moment but that will most likely change in the next few months,
As has been said about Scoobys they are far to common, and yes the P1 is 2 door but it fundamentally looks the same IMO and when you talk Scoobys people always say "blows engines" "chocolate pistons" i would rather hear "eats fuel" "lots to service" each the there own i guess,

Thanks for pics Rapid cossie, after seeing that sure makes me tempted
But I need to do my research into them as I know nothing about them.
And if it came to buying one, I would take someone who knows them cars inside out
Dont want to get caught with a dog

twoof my close mate have them..
they are very reliable AFTER they have been re mapped as they run far too close to det un mapped..
both of these P1's get canned bigtime and have done for the past two years without any probs..
one did melt and piston but that was the first day he got it and it hadnt been mapped etc...
he did investigation after that and found out that tons melt because the boost raises when you fit a decat etc which in turn melt the engine...
power FC remap and your sorted..
thes cars are quicker than most evo's, even the mr 340's

P1's are great cars as are Evo's, but dont think there bullet proof & much more reliable that a cossie, classic shape scoobs (including P1's) are time bombs, we see so many with the bottom end rattle!!! we have seen scoobs with under 40k with a fooked bottom end, but then we do see some 100k shitters that still sound sweet!
we've had a few Evo's with cracked blocks, blown head gaskets etc....
a lot of it is luck of the draw, the same with cossies, if these cars were that reliable & easy to run every one would have one
if i replaced my escos it would be with an evo 8 or an sti 8.

I mentioned my m8's had 2 rebuilds but that was an exception he bought a bad one by the looks of things. His P1 with exhaust and remap against my then stage 1 cosworth had nothing in it till, well apart from 2nd and 3rdish what i did gain when we both hit 5th and then he just blew me away and that was me on a well known chipped and set up car and no shitter. How it pulled in 5th was awseome and felt like it just pulled and pulled.

time bombs if not tuned propery and not run on correct grade of fuel..
after fitting an decat and exhaust you actually have to turn the boost down past standard levels to stop it from detting...

How about a Skyline, you'd get a good GTR for evo5/6 or P1 money.
From experience I can't comment on the Evo's as I've never had one, but I've had several Imprezas, fastest being a 1999 type ra which I think is what the japs had instead of a p1, also had several cossies, and just got a Skyline R32 GTR.
The Skyline kicks ass, where the cossies and especially scoobs were running out of go, this thing just keeps pulling, and it behaves like a rwd car....awesome motor wish I'd bought one years ago.

i know a guy from the P1 owners club who did a decat and didnt have it remapped and he drove it for 2 years with no probs whatsoever. So i dont think its fair to say that it will go bang without a remap. A reputable scoobie tuner also told me that you dont need to remap a standard P1 just with a decat pipe.
Most of these cars ...P1's,evos, etc etc are all gonna have a higher risk of going bang than your regular car....thats just a risk you take when you buy one. You cant say i wont buy a scooby coz its at 40000 miles and its GONNA go bang now, some go on for 100k plus..........its purely pot luck.
If you own any car of this nature you have to have a few grand in your back pocket just for this sort of situation,if you havent then IMO you shouldnt have a car you cant afford to run.
