Those who've been before (on those rollers) can't enter though, that would be cheating

Ricky, I think you got the best idea hosting the bbq, at least you will be able to have a drink or two or three or four
So no takers on the sweep stake ?

Testing the future
sweepstake is a very good idea Greg.
the Norfolk RSOC group did a similar thing, but presented trophies at the end rather than cash. they ran a points system for closest guess, etc. details here

Do you know how the points were worked out ? Can't see it on the link you provided
Can't be based on most BHP since this is unfair on those with lesser power, closest in actual bhp figure, or percentage of would be the fairest I think.
Or, we could try and combine bhp and torque, but that's just getting too complicated imo.

the top five most powerful cars were awarded points from 5 to 1 (which i agree is unfair in some ways, but does reward those who have perhaps made a bigger investment - not a hard and fast rule i know).
then there was points for closest guess to measured, but don't know how that was worked out exactly. you could have something like 5 points for +/- 5 bhp, 4 for +/- 10 bhp, 3 for +/- 20 bhp or something.
points for cleanest car - well i'm never gonna get anything out of that so don't care about it
and then a judgement from each member of the group on their favourite car there (excluding there own).
are you volunteering to organise it Greg?

you might get an award for the most colours on one car tho
how about the biggest power gain over standard for the smallest outlay ??
how you could guess someones power over 28 people is huge ..
so 28 people guess the power of 28 cars = 748 guesses
who has a bloody huge whiteboard then

imo,
Overall outlay is impossible to judge in all fairness.
Biggest power is unfair as I said before, we have a whole range of cars, let's not dent anyone's pride by saying they can't win if they don't have over 300bhp
So, everyone who wishes to enter the sweepstake writes down how much power they think their car will make on the rollers, closest wins, it's simple, will be a little bit of fun and more importantly, doesn't take too much for my frazzled brain to manage

eagle, you don't all guess each other's power - just your own and the closest guesses get points
i agree in some ways that the closest power should simply win, but if you have a standard (or near) motor, it's very easy to guess as you just go for the book figure. at least with the different categories, cars with different strengths have a chance (most different colors for example )

I think the best way to run this would be to work on a percentage then, closest to RR power reading as a percentage wins.
That sort of levels out the power differences between cars. It would be (statistically), easier to get within 5 bhp of a 100bhp car than a 330bhp one.
We could also introduce a tie-breaker just in case of a split result. Nearest to torque, or, nearest to revs with highest bhp.
Sounds like I'll have to bring a pc and a spreadsheet at this rate
