Sapphire Cosworth 4X4

Sapphire Cosworth 4X4
What advice can you give on these?
Things like running costs, how much to buy and what sort of things to look out for, what’s a good price to pay?
I am just testing the water at the moment as I do like my Mk6 Si, nice drive and like the interior, but without spending silly money on a turbo conversion I am stuck at about 150bhp
There would be no way I could afford a focus RS as that’s what I would like and a Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 would be the best way forward for me into Cosworth ownership, as I know the 2wd ones are quicker but I have heard alot of people struggle getting traction with the 2wd without the back end fish tailing
Cheers for any advice/info

Jay at fordsport in Warrington has some nice cossies in at the min, but think he is going on his hols soon. Always sound good examples with service history and he dont charge the earth too. Plus he will give ya the info you require. Stay away from jct28, unless the car is through checked.

People always blame the fooking driveshafts and they are in fact very strong indeed, its down to the shonky engine mounts that these joints get pulled out or broken, but people just keep bolting em in and calling em shonky.. rolfol

Go for a 4x4
standard might be an idea if you want to get used to the power but you will soon need more and get bored i can guarantee you.
getting stage 3 does add up when you take a new turbo into account.
you would save £'ssssssss if you bought one that had already got it done (properly). then u can just take it easy for a while until you get used to it
Also, 350bhp in my 4x4 is less scary than an old 200sx s13 i used to have with 170bhp.

go for stage 3 car, with history
i was orignally thinking of purchasing a standard one and by the time you have made it stage 3 it can get very expensive:
if you bought a standard one and wanted to stage 3 it:
Exhaust 400
chip 250
4 x greens 250
3 bar map 80
filter 100
actuator 60
then you have fitting on top of that
luckily mine has been modded quite sensibly:
full stage 3
all new engine and gearbox mounts
full coilovers (that creak )
fully polybushes (i think)
b and m quickshift
new clutch
the previous owner who had it for only 6 months, spent 1500+ doing just the clutch and full stage 3
so if you can get one thats been modded, go for it, just make sure its been done properly and you cant go wrong

thats why i havent taken mine to a garage yet
my best piece of advice, is do as much homework as you can, be as thorugh when checking the car over as possible, and if you are unsure walk away, plenty of them for sale at anyone time
though you may have to travel a long way for the right car
good luck

If you are serious and the moneys right (ie you have a decent amount) i know of a very nice saff, which was up for sale in feb when i was looking.
the reason i didnt go for it, as it came on over 1k more than the one i bought and was in manchester area, the one i found was in london.
this one looks mint, the guy sent me over 100 photos of it, and it looks spot on.
if you pm me, i'll send you his username and you can contact him yourself.

They are expensive to run tho.
I manage 50 miles to £10, on my stage 3. But its worth every penny. The car gets so much respect from people.
People will try to charge the earth for one, look at the history, and if its had engine mods look for one that had the engine mounts done.
and remember that leather isnt everything, I paid £3500 for mine, it is a K plate with 82k, stage three was completed a month before I bought it, it had 4 owners 2 were doctors and one was ford. I have proof of that. Just to give you an idea.
And if you buy one, buy a disklock, a wheel clamp and a Rottweiler.

4X4 Saff
Great cars but the spelling of the name is missing a letter t, it should read as costworth as they do cost bucks if you go nuts on the mods, they also love a drop of the old go go juice and my one is fed with optimax and nothing else, love the cars though i 've had my one for fours and i spent 20k all in, still makes my heart pound in my chest when i'm out on the roads and still to this day they are well rapid and well respected, original ford hooligan car

i went from a sII into a 4x4 .. totally loved it .. the ability to have some grip is good .... but ..
if you get the chance to buy one thats been sensibly modded then do it ..
or get a standard one and do the mods in stages .. you dont need the bigger turbo straight away .. i had greens and stage 3 chip for about a year before i got the turbo fitted .. quick blast down to a tuner and off you go
