Well i done a few trackdays last/this year,
My 1.6 cvh turbo, running std sump, (no Ford std water/oil cooler fitted) and 10/40 semi Morris engine oil, after a trackday yesterday, was hitting 120oC after about 7 minutes of being on track, Before i had to a few cool down laps before going again.
Wot i was thinking-
1. Would a std ford Water / Oil cooler be worth fitting? Do they do much?
2. or Wot size oil cooler is best for a 1.6 cvh turbo running 200-250bhp for track use.
i will be fitting cooler stat, as its a everyday car for work.
My cossie with a 6 ltr sump, and std Ford water/oil cooler, and fully 5-50 Morris E-oil, never goes over 105oC even in 27 ambients and 20 mins hard track session, so problems on that.
both temps are taken from bottom of sump, with a Racetch gauges, which i've checked back to back and with a Temp gun.
any advice would be gr8, Cheers Danny

defo fit a std water cooler type. They are good, as they also make the oil warm up quicker. It basically means the water and oil should stay roughly at the same temperature. On a track car, u may need another cooler - but defo try this first.

Dan - As you know I've got the Zetec Turbo in mine, only running 230bhp or so though. On the drive down to Trax last summer it was probably close on 30 degrees outside, and I ended up "cruising" with a Skyline at ***mph for about 10 minutes, and my oil temp was closing in on 300 Farenheit. Using 4000+ revs on the road sees the temp come up past 250 degrees too, and so I've finally fitted my 13 row, 235mm oil cooler and thermoblock. I've only driven it once since, but the temps were very stable, being controlled by the thermostat in the sandwich plate. I'm going to Brunters on Wednesday for the 12-Fiesta thrash with the other fiestaturbo.com boys, so will report back after that if you get in touch, or see a thread on the site

My engines being running at 120 C at trackdays for over 7 years now and its still pulling well. The thing thats put me off fitting an oil cooler is that I've heard that a high pressure/high volume oil pump is required, which i dont fancy going to the bother of fitting. Also heard that Burton are the only place selling them and that some people have had problems with the pump supplied from them.So heres the question,....Will my standard Ford oil pump do the job if I fit an oil cooler????????
Thanks in advance ,Micky

@ 120C its always over 35 psi while Im on track, thats between 2500rpm to 6000rpm.And just for interest,on the cooldown lap at Donnington its dropped to 90/100 C by the time the car gets back to the pits.Regards Micky

Fitted my 16row mocal oil cooler with stat on friday, fitted above gearbox, but below brake servo.
And done a Trackday yesterday, and on 18psi boost, and 15-20min's hard sesions (with no easing off) oil temp was 110-115oC at hottest.
Along with water temps of 94+oC, but i removed stat, and didn't change.
So time for coolant mod's.
