Default Does it annoy you when people lie about their figures?

Just interested to know really. I personally only quote what I can pove via engine dyno figures and/or timed runs etc, so although I believe I 'now' have around 375-400bhp I would only say 355hp as I cannot 'prove' otherwise at the moment (i.e. guesswork by comparing my spec to others I know of and their figures on engine dyno).

So...when you see something/someone in a magazine or website or ebay claim figures which you know cannot be right does it get your goat?

Obviously there's loads of keyboard warriors and those people who think they know best but it just seems like a lack of honesty to me whether it be to prospective buyers and/or customers.

I don't worry about it myself as I know what's what when it comes to my car but I feel for people who get duped because of this dishonesty.

Whaddya reckon?

Sure but do you think people should be asked to prove their figures when in mags etc? I suppose it would be open to abuse like anything else! I know PF is the mag that I would personally believe over others as far as figures goes but it seems these days it is just a free for all as far as figures goes.

It does make you seem like you have achieved less if you are honest these days as there are so many bullshitters

Yes it really does annoy me,why do people do it????Whenever I'm asked at a trackday I always tell people my engine is around 180bhp which I consider to be a fair and slightly conservative figure for my spec.No point in telling them its making 220bhp even if they would believe that.Regards Micky

Had it so many times and kiddies telling me my RS's aren't real as they don't have dump valves to get the extra power

Not even worth arguing with these people

Why lie about power figures. I can prove my claimed figures of my standard mercedes c270d.

Heres the graph. Twas rolling roaded at engine advantages.

so many people i have met in the past have claimed their rst is between 200 and 220 bhp.
it got to the point i got chatting to some bloke and he was about to say "its running...." and i said "let me guess, 220bhp"
he went yeah how did u guess.
then he showed me his nice dump vavle he had got and i asked how he was getting that power with his standard intercooler.

i even tought my sister once (who knows nothing at all about cars) what a standard rst intercooler looks like and she started making people look silly when they claimed 220.

y is it that all rst owners claim 220 and all cossie owners claim 350?
always seams to be the same figures

if im asked i just say "mine is at mo proven on the rollers to be 155 at 4psi(which i have the graph to prove!) as its only just been run in in terms of milage not age..... altho i would be happy with high 190's when its all done and the boost set to what it can run not half of what a std car runs!"

shuts people up as they know you aint bullshitting then!

Show me the graph is my response

The graph usually gets respect for it because a lot of us are sick of dribblers, and usually the enthusiasts either dont bullshit or have a graph to back the claim.

The editor is trying to sell mags 600bhp sounds better than 450 so he prints what you say. You will see that these Bullshitters never do a Topspeed run, cos that will prove what Power they have.

Power & gearing, in a Cossie Dingy my young friend, the aerodynamics are much the same.

Please dont mention 200 only a couple of Cossies will ever reach that, most 600bhp cars cant break 180, Thats my point.
As i said the Bullshit stops at Brunters , which gives you a prob my Motorsport friend.

Mad Rod - Now that you have achieved 200mph you are one of the worst offenders for claiming more hp. Everytime you tighten a bolt your car gains 50hp! What is it at just now 950 untested hp? Dont get me wrong the speeds there but that takes a whole package and for all you know you are changing the shape of your curve with no actual hp increase etc.

What annoys me is when you have a graph to prove ya figures and people still don't believe you!

I had an MG a few years ago, put a copy of the dyno sheet on there forum to be told my car didn't have that BHP and that PE dynos were set up only to run fords what a bunch of

Just find it funny sometimes
I accidentally got roped into a conversation at a local meet with a question about my spec, followed by 'and what power does it make'.. to humour a lad claiming he had 260bhp with little mods - seemed i had wasted my money!!

I wouldn't claim anything with mine, let it speak for itself the estimates i had for my spec were almost spot on when it ran at Nobles

Need mine arse dyno'ing again soon

really annoying i only ever quote what i have figures for but even then different rollers give different figures. at the end of the day its how you drive it not how much power you have just because some people have 500BHP dont mean they can drive it, if you want extra horsepower add a motorsport sunstrip that'll make any car the fastest in the world pmsl

Absoultly cracks me up some people !

If you got 400hp Cossie, someones mate ALWAYS has 500hp ! ALWAYS you never see it tho. And peoples who don't believe ya even after ya show em the graph !

I had mine dyno'd at Harvey's & got the numbers stuck on the bootlid to show peoples I wasn't gonna change me mind bout the power figures everytime they see me ! Came out more on the rollers tho

A boy from round ere (Yum will know ) has an Escy cos, standard apart from a basic stage 3 on home made exhaust, which was alledgley chipped & set up by Bailey motorsport (with collins performance stickers all over it) bout 6-7 years ago & 380hp !

Still quotes that figure now, car hasn't been touched in years apart from when he changed the head gasket last year.

So still on a 98 ron chip, no charge cooler upgrade, standard cams, turbo breather etc & almost 400 hp ! PMSL

Some people

Jb
