cleaning pistons
I am having my pistons coated, they need to be spotless before coating, whats the best way of cleaning them??

buy some gunk,pour it into a bowl and leave them crown down soaking for an hour,then wipe clean with a coarse rag

Ive got a a spare sump full of paint thinners which I use for cleaning engine parts, I dont fancy using it on the pistons though, The fumes give me a proper headache

what type of coating are you having on them?
depending on the type, they'll want them super clean,, really needs to go through a propper cleaning line with ultrasonic cleaners

automotive paint thinners
Petrol/gunk/wd40 etc.. will leave a film on them

Just mask up the rest of the piston an get the crowns vapour blasted.
Will give a better surface for the coating to key to as well.

Well, Ive cleaned them up a bit and they are now in my mothers dishwasher. Im picking them up tomorrow to see how they have cleaned.
