Default Fuel Economy

On my previous car I used to get approx 320-350 miles to a tank of fuel, now on this car I appear to be getting around 220-230 miles.

Specs.
Previous
1991 1.4 LX Ford Escort, 5 dr Hatch, 55 litre tank, wheels: 185/60 R14's

Current
1992 1.4 LX Ford Escort, 5 dr Hatch, 55 litre tank, wheels: 185/60 R14's

Any sensible reasons for such similar cars to have such different fuel economy?

Getting an early MOT on it next week.
mileage of old car 98000, new car 78000 - also new car has been much better looked after

Checked tyre pressures after swapping them from old car.

wouldn't just be cos of the cold weather? My 1.6 98 Escort in the summer can do anything between 350-395 miles on a full tank but in winter it's between 260-320.
