Brakes just failed on the missus clio...

luckilt she only nearly went into the back of one car, but fortunatly didnt
rang the AA at 2.30, just got home
the pedal is real easy to push down, when driving you push it to the floor, it does nothing, then will lock the wheels and thats it.
no feel to the pedal at all.
i think its most likely the master cylinder/servo as with the engine off, if you pump the pedal it goes a bit harder but not solid, you can still push it down to the floor with a bit of effort.
AA guy said it could also be a rear cylinder or a caliper leaking as that will have the same effect. also that some brake fluid will leak on brake pedal if its the master cylinder.
anyone else got any ideas, and prices of parts, its a 1998 mk2 clio 1.2

Nasty!!
I've had a brake line burst before. Its not nice!!
Engine braking saved the day.
I presume you have checked the fluid level and its going down???
Is the servo filling with brake fluid??
When my hose burst I had no pedal feel and the only braking was in the last few mm's of travel.

cheers guys, graeme, i jacked it up yesterday, check all the wheels, adn your right, the N/S/R drum had fluid dripping out of it and the wheel was covered, i didnt have a socket big enough to get the nut off but deffo sure its that.
i already have some new rear shoes for it, and the front discs look a bit fukked so ill do all the brakes while im there.
she wants to sell the car tho now

I use to have a 1.8 clio rsi. It was the worce move i had ever made as was nothing but trouble.
It was like a sweep stake for my mates to gues what was going to brake by the next payday.
Let her sell it things will only get worce
