Anyone ever heard of compbrake brake kits ?
My mate has seen a brake kit on Ebay from www.compbrake.co.uk and just wondered if anyone had any experience of them, as you never knwo with these brake kits how good they are gonna be without some previous customer input

they are the old bremsport ones which used to be made by TAS until they went under again - now made by the ex management of said company I believe
The bridge between the calipers is round tube which always made me think they would flex more than a solid connector but never tried them in anger to prove or disprove my theory

I have them, they are EXCELLENT. Got them front and rear on my Cossie.
PM Tony (User name NutsRus or similar) as he does very good prices and is mega reliable.
Would write more, but in a rush now - do a search for them on here as lots of peeps have them.

I think they are good value for money, I have fitted some Comp b4 calipers to a Impreza and I was a bit dissapointed as the calipers visibly flexed.
However they worked really well on the road and were a huge improvement over the godspeed brakes he had.
I've just got their new catalogue and I'm interested in a few bits for my mk2 escort, do all their products work as well as they look ?

Well we are interrested by the rear kits (ø300mm with the genuine calipers) so the problemes are limited for that application anyway.
But one of use want a ø330 4pots kit for the front of its 2wd saphire. An 'unhappy' mate told me that when he tried to fit the same kit (brand new) the rotors were hitting the calipers. He tried to contact the seller (on e-Bay so I'm sure it was Compbrake directly) but he didn't get reply to his e-mails
I guess he received a wrong set of brackets but I like to make sure that doesn't happen to often

Although i am pleased with my kit & have used it on trackdays & it stands up well to abuse, Compbrake did send me 1 wrong caliper mounting bracket my car is 2wd 3dr cossie & in the kit they sent me 1 bracket for a 2wd & 1 for a 4x4 which was a pain in the arse as i had to drive the car back to my house with only one side fitted. Spoke to Steven at compbrake & he sent the right bracket out straight away & it was with me the next day so that was good of him to be prompt but obviously the kit wasn't checked properly when dispatched the 1st time which was rather annoying.
I would use Compbrake again though.
I paid £625 for my 330mm 2wd setup before Compbrake put the prices up

The products will speak for themselves once any fitting issues are sorted.
Car manufacturers use a whole host of suppliers for components like hubs, TCA's and caliper carriers etc. Some of these can be as much as 6mm out from each other. Obviously this makes it difficult to do a 1 kit fits all scenario. Some fit 100% perfect first time with no mods and others need a washer or two to space things out. (This is not new as AP actually supply washers and spacers with their kits too). The same hardware is sent to all (except in the case of mistakes) and for some its as stated - a perfect fit whilst others hit small problems thats hardly a fault of the kit itself.
If serious problems occur CB will work directly with you on a 1 to 1 basis to overcome any issues and if necessary will make a bespoke component to fit.
They supply a lot of components like compression strut kits, lightweight hubs, hydraulic components etc direct to places like Burtons and rally design etc for them to sell on. You really are buying direct ....
The 'bremsport' myth is close in connection but they are not exactly the same products, time has evolved on in the 10+ years since they were introduced and sold through TAS

Thanks Tony I visited the CB website and I know what they are selling but it doesn't mean it's quality (every companies says they are building the best..) So that's why customers feedbacks taken on huge forum like this one are much more interesting
I've also read some other topics talking about CB (were I found your company by the way as well as your little problem Simon ) so I feel more confidant now even if I'll probably take AP stuff for my own front brakes
Thanks everybody

CB will never claim to be selling the best, but have a brake product that is priced realistically to a spec that (in totally independant tests) exceeds others.
I always say if people can afford the price of AP's and want to pay double for them then do so. If you use your brakes hard (for example competition or trackdays) then remember the components like discs and pads will need replacing too, and the ongoing costs of owning big brand labels can mount up over a period of time.
There is a market for all scenarios out there and its your choice at the end of the day. But your right forums like this can both help and hinder choices as people both favour or slag off the same product.
With Ford, Subaru, Peugeot, Lotus, Mitsubishi, Rover, Audi, BMW and Renault forums etc all discussing this topic it would be hard for CB to keep track of them all but the phone keeps ringing and the feedback keeps growing just as Im sure it does at AP

Like one of us wants to try the front we will probably consider them after seeing and testing them in real

Sorry but it wasnt a price rise at all why i stopped dealing with comb brake
It was because
1, he sells to his dealers ( nobody now ) at a price and then sells them himself at a very close price on e/bay therfore leaving no proffit for the dealer , like me who bought 3/4k worth of kits at a time and made pennies on them as i had to match e/bay prices
2, The kits came with bits missing ( and i mean every kit ) and i was sick of people ringing me ( and they were quite right to do so ) on a monday after waisting there weekend trying to fit a break kit with half the parts missing
3, The compression strut kit is for a 4x4 cossie and needs modding to fit a escoss as the bolts are bigger and aprox 2mm further apart , and after telling Steve this he replied with " well tell people to mod them when they get them " , Sorry but this is not acceptable in my opinion .
4, His delivery was CRAP, I would call him and ask for loads of stock and then after driving 2 hours to meet him i find half the stuff wasnt there
5, Finaly , his prices were one price one day and another the next day
No good to me , I had a price structure agrred with him , but he would always try to charge me more every time .
The Break kits are good and work well . the problem with comp brake is the front man , if i got a good service and a agrred price i would still stock there products , it was a shame i had to stop dealing with them

I have just found a invoice from comb brake and a 330mm front kit for a 4x4 cost me £636 inc vat ,
Steve sells on e/bay for £650
Thats £14 for the dealer and thats with all the hassle of going to collect the kits ,, paying out thousands up front , and getting hassle for bits missing

Very interesting!
I also understand that you simply 'cant' work this way Paul..
I think I will just order the rear kits as they are very simple and don't come with to much parts..

Paul I knew all that mate ... and also know the bit about you were taking most payments with cards and cheques etc so the VAT had to be added
They sell enough kits direct and seem happy to carry on this way, but your right for £14 its sometimes not worth the hassle

Knowing who has done some of the work on it im looking forward to seeing it
I asked Martin (MEF) and he said it was a giggle last year yes, and he'd like to go again for a play about maybe so who knows
The idea of taking him there for the trackday, was so he could get an idea of the layout of the place for the rally's which take place in December / Jan.
He finished 4th O/A in the scooby and had some good battles with Tim Finch .... so it paid off lol
