Engine build
Hi
I have about 10k to spend on a engine for my Cosworth Saph. What I want is a 500bhp engine. My question is can I get one for this sort of money and can anyone recommend someone. I don't mind travelling but I want a decent job.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

where are you? can the rest of the car take the power mate?
Its worth considering. The engine is just one part of things sadly
Lots of excellent and capable tuners and engine builders on here.

I am in north london and its a 2wd Saph. I already have my budget for a quaife diff and a big tooth gearbox put aside. I have the full Zoo motorsport suspension and beam so I think the car is well up for it.

I think one of the guys who works there visits the forum.
Good luck!!

Having used and spoke to a few tuners.
I wouldn't use anyone else but Norris Motorsport.
Regardless of location in the UK
The cost and reliability of his engines to me is simply awesome.

Nice to hear from you mate. The new Zoo motorsport set up is really great. Karl replaced everything the old rear beam just fell apart!!
I can't wait to get it on a track.
P.s do you think it will beat Grants Skyline with 500bhp and the Zoo set up?

Your going to get alot of recomendations, and with a 10k budget, you will get what your after. That is a sensible budget for a 500bhp + Engine. What you need to take account of though, is the ancillaries your going to need to keep your engine reliable, but for 10k I think it'll all be within your budget.
Obviously everyone will recomend their engine builder, which is only to be expected.
I would thoroughly recomend Karl Norris (NMS MotorSport) as it was Karl who built my engine. His knowledge of the Cosworth Engine can only be described as One of the Very Best in the business. What you must also remember, is that it will be Karl who does absolutely everything on your engine..... Head Modifications, Measurements, Machining, and Mapping, and personally I think this is a huge advantage of alot of tuners.
Give him a call, as I know he will advise you very accurately as to what he will use, how he will do it, and what to expect.
Anyone (Relatively Speaking) can build an engine that will produce 500bhp, but making it reliable, making it drive the way "you" want it to drive is a major input into what components to use. Explain exactly what you intend to use the engine for....Road, Track, Race, Rally, and he will match the components for your application.
Just give him a call, and the chance to explain what you want, and what he can provide... You won't regret it.

Franco : Tks for that, I must admit that since I got Karl to build the engine, I've been absolutely over the moon with it, and it has proved 100% reliable with no issues at all.
Only problem is that most 2wd rolling roads can't take the power....... Damned good fun though, and it's better than I could ever have asked for.
Basically I told Karl what my budget was, and that I wanted mid range power over absolute power, and that it must produce over 400bhp on anyones rolling road.
And it produced 428bhp on it's very first run when the engine had just 1k miles on it. Now it's running even better now that is ran it properly.
Fantasic engine, producing more than what I asked for

I will say that having been for a drive in Jim's Cossie it is incredibly refinded for the power that it has, it seemed well behaved driving slowly and an animal when the foot hit the floor, a true credit to Karl.
