Default advice needed (trouble from the police)

Ive got a boat that was given to me when my gramp died in november 2004, its quite an old boat and is legal but since ive had it ive just had it sat on a friends garden on the trailer.

well yesterday at 12:30 pm the police went to the house wer i keep the boat and without knocking the door or showing a warrent of any kind started looking in the boat and taking photo's of it, the owner of the house was not in but when she came home the lady from nextdoor told her what she had seen the police do.

so at 4pm the owner of the house went to the police station and asked why they had been in her garden taking photo's of the boat? and she was told its none of your biz go away!

do they need a warrant for that kind of thing and do you think i should go with this person and see a solicitor about making a complaint????

Sounds bizarre.. Surely they have no right being on someone elses property and taking pictures without permission

They are probably investigating a theft of a similar boat.

I would mate. Most likely it will be nothing, but I think they have to have a warrant to search around private property. They are probably trying to shortcut the rules and hoping you wont do anything.

There is no such thing as trespass anymore and by the sounds of it they were photographing it as part of a ongoing investigation so I dont see what the problem is tbh. If the boat is legit theres nothing to be concerned about.
