In a straigh engine the cylinders are vertical and all in a line, just like a cossie YB engine. In a V engine the cylinders are not verticle, they are angled out to each side. Better explaination here-

come on mate, you should know about engine configuration by now. its also a 2.5 volvo engine in the foci

 

 

A V Engine has two banks of cylinders running one Crank, ie V6, V8 etc, very rare to have an odd V as in V5 although there are some bike engines running V5's, and there used to be on old Honda NS400 that was a V3...

Straight is as... a line of cylinders running one crank, as per CVH, Zetec and YB... No other ford cars run a Straight 5, it's a Volvo engine, the same as that used in the Volvo T5, Audi used to use a straight 5 in the Quattro, dunno if they still do tho.

yeah the passat comes with the option of a W12

 

VW also do a 2.3 V5 engine as found in the Golf and Pasatt.
