S13.
And if you dont want something too weedy, you shouldnt consider an AE86 anyhow...
If you dont mind weedy power, a 1.7 Volvo 340 is a suprisingly good choice...
Or a E30 325 is ok power. Beemers got waaay too much turns lock to lock tho.

Thats the main fault with the E30 as a drift car definately, i look like im having some sort of epileptic fit driving mine when i try and put the lock on and off quick enough!

I never mentioned MR2s as he says an AE86 alternative, and a mid engined car is nothing like one, esp if he wants to hang the ass out.
Mk2 Escys are pricey if you want a decent spec.
Like what? There are tons of cars, can tell you all about em, but if we talking no more than say, 1.5grand, then the options are less.

Not really bothered about drifting to much, more intrested in having something that can be modded to handle like its on rails, or damn close, something not to dear that I can do a few trackdays in and upset a few bigger cars through a few bends
E30 did spring to mind as the old M3 touring cars used to give the RS500's a run for money with way less power, maybe with a few quid spent on a decent suspension setup and the right brakes this might be a good option.
How does the jap stuff compare for outright handling? if an s13 can be made to go round corners well then one of these could be on the list aswell

The last thing you want for a cheap trackday that REALLY handles is a RWD car.
Something light and FWD is far better.

205 you say
Although they soon add up when prepping them for the track..
Ł500 for a std car
Ł500 for Quaife diff
Ł380 for roll cage
Ł175 for decent brake pads
Ł150 for spare set of rims and slicks
Ł150 for GTi-6 calipers and yokes etc
Plus seats and harnesses are all pretty essential
Then you have the options list such as closer ratio box, uprated torsion bars, coilovers, quickshift gear rods, and so on!
But I guess these costs are pretty similar for any track car!

The fact is -any- car can be made to handle like it's on rails.
The way I see it is you have two main options:
1. Look for a good condition cheap car that's widely supported (i.e you can gets lots of -good- advice about modifying it on the net) something that has an abundance of tuning/handling bits out for it. 205 is a great example.
2. Look in the road legal racing series for something decent. A friend of mine picked up a Mk1 Astra for about Ł1500 which had a Leda setup, roll cage, buckets, highly tuned 1.8 lump. You can find some real bargins in this area and the best bit is racers tend to fit bits which do work rather than do it for the bling.

Hes already said he not really interested in drifting, wants a car to beat scoobys etc round the twisty bits on a track, so dunno why AE86 was ever mentioned.
And the money it costs to buy a KP starlet and put decent (ie uprated AE86 or Mk2 Escort) running gear in it, youve pretty much paid AE86 money anyhow.

205 1.9's are cool little cars. I nearly bought one instead of the Bravo. Maybe I should have
Get one dude, and if money becomes less of a hardship in future you could always throw an Mi-16 lump in there

They aren't as bad as the picture looks and I find them about right but still experimenting Anyway, back to topic!
I don't want to preach about 205's or any FWD car but they can be fun and very quick on track! Don't rule them out just because they are FWD!
You could have a much better handling car and overall package from a hot hatch than some lardy, not designed for track/fast road RWD saloon car!
