Thank You.
Yes, i once wrote a much smaller version of it on here, and i recall it was well recieved, so for my first, short notice article, i used that topic and added another 2000words or so to make it more concise.

Thanks for your kind words. I hope you enjoy the rest of the articles i write.

or something

one hting i will say though, as an explanation, stu's write up is top stuff, all you need is a basic undestanding of what is going on and everything just builds from there
and because it's very well explained (the suck/squeeze/bang/blow to create the flow etc) it all slots together nicely as you are reading what you take for granted and then you see how it all works together as a full cycle rather than stu just concentrating on "this is why you get less boost/more power" and spending ages explaining the workings of just the turbo

i'v got an electronics degree but if i wanted to know how a telly worked other than "you press the button and there is a picture" i'm sure i'd be searching out a stu of the telly world to explain thngs to me

Next one is done and going to press.

Compressor maps. How to understand them and how to use them to buy teh correct turbocharger. Biggest feature i have ever written, and some 30% bigger than last months too.

Yeah, more than planned for, but its an incredibly complex subject to try and cram into a couple of thousand words. Laymans terms are getting quite sparce at this level, but it has to be said, some of you will smile at the laymans terms used to describe the feature the month after.... no more clues, just wait and see

To be absolutely honest Stu, the tech article of yours you did about VE through different sized turbine housings etc. was truly fascinating to me.

I'm not saying that to arse-lick btw

Since i decided to follow my heart and work in motorsport 3 years ago, i have pieced together little pieces of the jigsaw as and where i can - over the years though, i've picked up some crap knowledge (aka bullshit!) as well - this i've since dismissed and replaced...

Reading articles like yours and similar in Practical Performance Car have been excellent at topping up or replacing knowledge.

I have read a books on engine management and four stroke tuning etc. but i find it easier to absorb small articles and features rather than flood my brain and miss fine points.

I'm basing these comments over what i've experienced over the last few years, so can't really comment on the past as such - but i have to say i still find decent articles written by people who really understand the topic a good read.

Is the Fast Ford feature going to be a long term regular thing Stu?

Thank's Will, very kind of you to say so pal.

Its largely due to people like yourself who have said thanks for things ive written on forums over the years that i have finally taken the plunge and had a go at doing it professionally. If it wasnt for teh praise i have recieved from these forums i would still firmly believe i wasnt capable of doing it.

The Fast Ford feature is pretty much guaranteed for a full year at least, of course that is dependant on people actually liking it, and it perhaps having a positive affect on subscriptions etc. But im here to stay for as long as i can think of things to write about and for as long as you want to read what i write... so if anyone has any suggestions, i truly would appreciate them and note them down...

Can I buy your pages separately and save wasting cash on the rest of the pish that makes up the average ford magazine?

I bought PF about a year ago for one article alone, never read the rest of it! That's the only car mag (apart from EVO) that I've bought in the last 4 years!!!!!

Neil.

You're welcome Stu, hopefully i'll see you on the next bank holiday piss up in a few weeks

Any chance we could have a comprehensive and thorough write up on Anti Lag Systems?

Just that in the last few years i've heard SO much bullshit* about it and it was only about 3 months ago that i got an explanation that sort of made sense

*Bullshit includes people asking me how best they can mount a 5th injector and spark plug in the exhaust manifold.... post turbo

Stu,

I would like a tech article on turbos (fairly pictorial)...

-Seeing a turbo in it's component parts
-What is the housing and physical differences between say a .48 and .63
-Explanation of buzz words such as:
*270 degrees Thurst bearing versus a 360
*maram shafts
*fundamental differences between T and GT turbos ?
*turbo manufacturers (garret, air research, etc...), what they have, what they offer, pros and cons, etc...
*seals, where are they, what are they for ?
*what is involved in a rebuild
*how do identify turbo problems (play in shaft, etc...)

Would follow on nicely from your first two articles, but I am sure you've thought of a continuous thread already

It tells you at teh end of this months...

Yeah, teh walker book is a good insight into messing with engine management and WELL worthy of a read

Maybe i should write a whole book on something, that would keep me off teh streets for a few years

Meant to say Stu that i got the mag thursday night and read it all on friday as i'm doped up with cold.

Read your article and it was the bollocks You always here things like 'a t3 is no good for xyz bhp' and 'a t4 is a lagmaster' or 'surge and chatter'

But now i know what people mean when they say the above.

You explained them perfectly and made them easy to understand

Think your articles are the best i have read in ages

Could show PPC a thing or two You could start writeing for them next
