400 bhp is all any driver could ever want in a car that weighs between 1200 and 1300 kg,anymore than this and your chasing figures really.
A 600bhp cossie cant go round corners any quicker than a 300bhp car with the same suspesion.

bhp isnt the problem though ima, a 69bhp bike like mine will still top 140 and do 0-60 in around 3.5 secs, bike deaths have gone up, but if you look at the statistics you will see that the majority of them are the middle aged born again biker types whose last bike was a BSA in 1970,
and what are they riding?? and as they are middle aged their insurance is dirt cheapso they can afford high powered sports bikes
france has a 100bhp limit on bikes
thing is, if you get hit by a car/hit diesel/slide off the road at 70mph does your bhp come into it

So true, I think IMHO that comparing a big HP that drove through the fooking woods to a car that will be on black top is like comparing apples to oranges!!

You may be correct about the amount of speed that you can carry through a corner, but the exit speed would be like chalk and cheese .
You win the "most biased" comment award Mr 400bhp Cossie owner (that weighs 1200-1300kg) .

The 186mph limit on bikes is the magic 300kph mark - there was a woman in European parliament who was getting on her high horse when the Hayabusa and ZX12R came out quoting 200mph top ends.
As Mike Rainbird said - the Japs imposed the limit on the whole of Europe (including UK) just to pre-empt any mad legislation knee jerk legislation. In yet another Euro political correct bollocks act, this is the reason why most bikes now have digital speedo's - the Hayabusa caused uproar because it's speedo went to 220mph (so of course - it OBVIOUSLY does this). The restricted ones now have only 200mph speedo's!!!

Personally I don't think it would be a bad thing to have engine power limits which increase as you get older which are unlimited by the time you get to my age-30 LOL
Another good thing I reckon would be that once to want to drive cars over X bhp that you have to take an advanced driving test of some sort......
I am all up for freedom of this and that etc but sometimes some peeps need some help as left to their own devices they run out of self control/ability and fook themselves or worst still someone else!!

But it would seem a few people on here (no names) just want to slate you at every given opportunity. This is a perfectly decent post with some logical replies and opinions.
Think people should learn to digest what others are saying before creating an argument.
'Oh look its ima: lets pay no attention to what he is saying and just twist everything he says as much as possible. WHY'
And no im not a raving queer or anything like that or trying to bum lick phil. I just think it ruins a post/thread when people start deliberately twisting what others say.
Rant over

Not actually read the whole thread but I thought it was quite an interesting topic!!
Said this before and I say it again no matter what topics Phil post they WILL always turn to shite as peeps ALWAYS start on his topics, not excusing of course the really stupid topics he post to wind peeps up etc but that's different (phil being a twat !!LOL )

I think its more of a problem that people tune there cosworths to 400+ or more (which can be done with injectors,mapsensor,rs500 ic, exhaust, good fuelpump)
all easy to get onstock items..
But they dont upgrade there brakes or suspension because of lack of money..
this is more dangerous then people having 700 bhp in there cosworth. Those people usually have done the brakes and suspension!

Phil,
Point to point my Escort would murder my Sapphire, just not in a straight line.... .
Perhaps if you actually had some driver training you would not feel so inferior . You would be amazed at how driving on track improves your road driving ability (as in how to handle the car in extreme situations) - buy I guess that just isn't your scene, as it doesn't involve keyboard warrior skills .
FYI I am a RoSPA* "Gold" qualified advanced driver .

I was actually referring to road driving not track. When i said between 1200-1300kg that was to include 2wd, 4x4 and escorts.
The corner speed issue mabe true if there were two drivers of equal ability driving, but its only guess work on your part.
Saying it is one thing, doing it is quite another!

Anyway - IMO it's the usability of the power, not the total amount that is important. In this sense, Cossie's probably aren't great - the ones I have driven have quite a lot of lag and the power comes in with a wallop - makes them challenging to drive and fun, but if you can't handle rear wheel drive it's dangerous if you give it some.
How easy the chassis is to use is also important. Luckily, again IMO, the Cossie has a really forgiving chassis - I could take far bigger liberties in a 300bhp Cossie, (and I guess a 500bhp one if I ever drove one), than say a 250bhp MR2 Turbo or even a Lotus Elise with 118bhp.....

As an example I was out with Daz a few weeks ago mapping the car at 2.3bar boost and on a dual carriage way at around 140mph the car started to lose rear end control due to undulations on the road. (these appear slight at 70mph but are enough to disturb the balance of my car at big speeds.)
When this happens at this speed it truely is un-nerving and something I try to avoid.
