Pon...TBH not many were killed in Group B i dont think...but they were built for that power safety wise!!!!

The Reyland Escort aswell showed remarkable strength BUT then it did only roll over it didnt actually hit anything stationary...BUT i guess it would have still been ok.......PLUS its a rally car aint it?

I talking about road going mainly anyway where other people are a factor...and if its just a road car not likely to be Full FIA approved safety wise....mind if it was i would assume it would do a normal car some seriously damage if it hit one!

Jim..i know speed aint a major factor..but then the majority arnt extreme over speeders..remember a tuned Cosworth with 400bhp is a minority compared to other road users!.

phil i wasnt making that as a direct link, just another moan at the ripoff speed cameras in this country

also in the grand scheme of this phil, how many deaths have you heard of due to too much power in the wrong hands? as TBH i havent heard of it happeneing very often. pleas remember were in the MINORITY of road users. it may sound harsh to ignore such a subject, but sometimes sacrifices have to be made for the good of the many.

any time/money/effort spent on addressing this particular issue could IMO be much more wisely spent in other areas of road safety

No, I'd be obnoxious no matter where I was born.

It just seems that you are quick to attempt to impose your values, beliefs, opinions, etc on others instead of wanting to let them decide for themselves

If you find your current transportation is beyond your ability to control...sell it and get something a bit more docile.

Just don't go around trying to tell everyone else what is right for them since *THEY* are the ones who decide that, not you

Think you should put....

Power to weight phil over out right power.....

My car gets absolute death with 400bhp every time i get in it.....and has a better power to weight than a 500bhp cossie road car

Believe me i have had suspension parts break on me at high speed and fires happen, you have to have your wits about you to sort out all the out comes, not just how you are going to make the next corner. Sometimes this is out of your control which is a real shitter, but if you can't drive at speed then u need to change your car LOL

No, impossible LOL.....

Cars are driven as fast as they can but this is all down to the driver over the car.

EscortWRC...as this is a discussion board i am airing my opinions...not anywhere have a said you shouldnt OWN ONE I am discussing WHEN are they gonna be too fast.

God forbid they ban the tuning of cars I love it..and will have a very big bhp Skyline soon..BUT then i consider myself sensible as in not drive outside my own personnal feelings on my capabilitys.......I could quite easily think i am a racing driver thinkin i could handle it and prob get away with it for many years..BUT what if i fuck up..and harm another person...thats where i consider i have a limiter which is missing from many people!

agree 100%

you seem unable to have an adult discussion/debate on the subject and are simply trying to tell people what you beleive and justify this.

i have NEVER seen you change your mind/reform an opinion furing any discussion for that matter... youre arrogant imho. but unfortunately i think its too late in your life to change that, so the best you can do is admit it to yourself.

ps thats not some anti-ima hate thing, as you well know ive changed my opinion of you in recent months, its just my honest, unbiased opionion on the matter

European Parliament tried to place a power limit of 100 bhp on all bikes about 10 years ago, but the plan was abandonned due to masses of evidence showing there was no correlation between death rates and the power of motorcycles - in fact, scooters single handedly disproved it.

There is a correlation between age and death rates however.

You drive within your limits - if you are a crap driver you'll stack a 200bhp Cossie if you try to give it a bit in the wet.

Bike death rates have remained static. Total deaths have increased on bikes because so many people are coming into biking. Also, born againers have been dying a lot as they were able to come back to biking, pay a small insurance premium and buy a GSXR1000 with no experience.

These days, if you ring an insurance company you won't find any that will insure over 600 cc bikes unless you have at least 2 years NCB (I found this out after a bike accident killed off my NCB).

EscortWRC....having actual experience of fast cars i would say that if i say a 450bhp RWD Cosworth is too fast for the public highway..i think that i wouldnt be too far wrong...Have you experience of proper BHP????

I am sorry though that i am guessing that 700bhp would be to fast Shucks you found me out..cancel the post, stop time, tell the Prime Minister to ban freedom of speech on BB's and that everyone must visit Wales and follow the example that sheep set.

I noticed that so far Jim and you Matt are the only ones to get venomous....sad

Yes, I have

I raced motorcycles for 10 years and rally cars for the past 4. I've driven several 400+ hp cars and brought them all back in pristine working order.

Phil,
Just goes to show that you are way behind the times. There used to be a voluntary bhp limit in this country of 145bhp, but that was years ago and then as bikes improved more and more the bhp limit went out the window (as it was only voluntary anyway).

Now in a bid to prevent the suits from interferring yet again (due to the recent spate of motorbike deaths from the "born agains"), they have introduced another voluntary limit, and this time it is speed related. So all the latest crop of superbikes are limited to 186mph (which is plenty fast enough), which was due to government pressure in the fear of bikes capable of 200+mph being readily available to the public for under Ł10k . So the manufacturers imposed their own limit to prevent any legislation (which is usually draconian, because we are obviously too stupid to protect ourselves ).

PS. Was your Mum Mary Whitehouse?

PPS. You're the BIGGEST hypocrite in the known universe - I would love to see your reaction if do-gooders wanted to ban hip-hop due to it's influence on gangs etc - you would soon be piping up in it's defence quotaing personal freedon blah, blah, blah .

Don't see the point in this really You come off your bike at 186mph you're dead anyway, what difference is another 14mph+ gonna make? In fact anything over about 150mph on a bike is a bit frantic & dangerous on the road anyway in my experience, eyesite starts to blur etc. and car drivers seem to have a hard enough seeing you anyway so at that speed you're doubley fucked.

Ian,
It has only been introduced to pre-empt an government interference. After the headline making speeds of the 'busa, manufactures thought they had better step in before the suits did it for them.

Can you imagine the media frenzy over the first bike that was available "off the shelf" that could hit 200+mph - just like the bollocks that was going about when the Lotus Carlton was introduced - the media went mental - and that was a slow old barge .

Just a point or two here......
The real monster powered cars (in excess of say 500bhp), although road legal, aren't going to be driven everywhere at full chat / boost. Costs dictate that.
Decisions must be made when to turn the wick (boost) up, and most people will make a conscious decision of exactly when is the right time, based on the fact that continuous full boost running will bring round "engine rebuild time" somewhat prematurely.

Costs again, your average, unintelligent chav typically won't be able to afford this sort of powerful car (or state of tune) as he doesn't earn enough!

If you have a half reasonable level of savvy, one that will get you a job capable of paying for this sort of power to weight, then surely that savvy might prevail when the "when to use all this power" dilemma arises?

Hip hop and wether you can handle 700bhp are not even remotely in anyway a comparison Next your be quoting banning Big Brother cause it influences you to go out and have sex with strangers

...again for the impaired vision folk...i never said i wanted it banned.I was raising an issue on when does it all get too fast

I was raising an issue of should hip-hop be banned 'cos it leads to Gang wars / drive-by shootings and deaths - some of whom have been innocents, so I feel it is a very good comparison .

Should we listen to this music or allow people to play it because of this? .

and 3 spokes, they could confuse people into thinking they have somehow gone back in time 10-15 years, and that might cause mental problems, suicide, even crazy killing sprees, so should they be banned too?

The only comment I have to make on this matter is my own car is too fast for my driving ability on public roads. However I choose to drive it with the respect it deserves and thus have so far minimised situations that could prove a fatal accident.

As an example I was out with Daz a few weeks ago mapping the car at 2.3bar boost and on a dual carriage way at around 140mph the car started to lose rear end control due to undulations on the road. (these appear slight at 70mph but are enough to disturb the balance of my car at big speeds.)

When this happens at this speed it truely is un-nerving and something I try to avoid.

You wanna be careful expressing a question on here. FAR too many people cant actually read and understand an alternative point of view

any car in the wrong hands is a death trap more HP makes it even worse,
I only drive any of my cars as fast as I feel comfortable whether it is on the road or track
We all have a responceabilty not to over step the mark but not everyone has the comon sense to do this.
