Default Focus RS or Civic Type R??

Hi, i currently have a focus 1.8 zetec and now i've came off age and means to get something decent. These are the options i've been weighing up for a trade in.

Focus RS

Civic Type R

Basically you can get a decent civic for 10k. And for the RS i'd be looking at around 14k i've saved up enough money to buy either but i'm just wondering if i'd be justified in paying the extra 4k? Performance wise on paper there very much a-like. I've only had a test drive in the civic curerently due to the rarety of the RS.

I was impressed with the drive of type r. Although i felt the steering felt less responsive/involving. I couldn't exactly tell what was going on when cornering. And the brakes wern't overly impressive either. Although the performance seemed to be there and when it hits around 6krpm it's at it's peak untill around 8krmp. Although this was nice untill you get to the 6krpm performance doesn't feel much better than my 1.8.

So basically i wanted to ask for your views as i'm sure a few of you have actually driven the RS. Do you think whats lacking in the type r can be found in the RS??

Thanks for taking the time to read this look fowards to reading your posts.

If you didn't find the brakes and steering impressive on the CTR. Get the FRS. Still the best FWD hot hatch made IMO

Focus Rs mate - civic type r's are soooo common it's unreal & look shite compared to the focus rs!

The civic will probably more reliable though.

Id go for the focus rs aswell if i had the choice out of them too, just think the performance is slightly better and better looking car/ more exclusive etc. Dont know about you lot but when i see a civic type r on the road i dont really bat an eye anymore because i see so many, but when i see a focus rs i always break my neck trying to look at it

Integra R is a waste of time .Think it's the other way round The Civic is the better all round people, lets not pretend. It is the daddy of FWD hatches and since when did better looking become a criteria in performance

def the focus rs no Comparison between the two the focus is faster, looks the part i'm not saying the civic does'nt but the focus got that wow factor cheaper to Modify, better standard package, well if i had the choice i would take the focus rs over the civic

Driven both many many times and couldnt live with the crappy unresponsive engine in teh Civic TBH. You have to wring its fooking neck to get it to go... like having a T4 without the power

Those suggesting the Civic, have you actually driven a FRS in anger? Its a far different beast to what most expect, its a VERY good package indeed.

If you cut me in half in my day job, I'd have honda written through me. When I sell one, I do it knowing full well I won't have the customer come whinging back about something breaking on it or reliability issues

Having said that, I'd choose the Focus RS even though it's BOUND to cost more in upkeep no matter what anyone may tell you.

The Type R's are brilliant, but obviously lack the torque you get in the RS, which IMO is far more exciting doing 60 and feeling like you are, than having to look down at the speedo to see what you're doing

Like Stu said, you have to drive the vtec engine a bit harder to get more out of it, but it also means you can drive it very sensibly and get good economy and that's what they're built for I suppose

Can't be arsed to go into it, do a search but Focus RS easy. Far more tuning potential, less common and holds its value faaaaaarr better. Both fantastic hatches though.

As said above Focus RS

i tried the Type R and R32 and bought the RS

since when has the Civic been the bench mark? as said before you have to rag the nuts out of the civic to get it going

all 3 are great cars though

not this one again

focus rs all the way this car will hold its money and the type r will not be worth nothing

the rs is class the type r is jap

my main ford dealer tells me that the rs badge is dead so the focus rs is the last of the line well for now think of the rs focus as a investment
iv got a mint fiests rsturbo sat in my garage worth around 3800, 4000. the point im making is the focus wont devalue

lets get things right about the type r power,, its not that fast . i have a well set up 180/190 erst and will easly stay with any type r granted when it comes to corners the type r is very good but not as good as a focus, now the other thing is what stu said .. to get power out of the type r you have to ring its bolloks abit like a superbike power only at high revs why? cus torque is only produced at the bottom of the revs so to get the same power out of the focus you dont need to ring it as the focus develops its power at the bottom of the revs..the one thing you notice when drivin n/a cars is how many revs you need to get them to go , but the type r is even worse cus of vv only come into play at massive revs..

dude the typre's engine is designed to rev it loves it and thats how it needs to be driven vry hard and infact round town it drives better than a FRS and in standard form there is nothing init I had a few run is with my type R and frs's and it was even stevens infact if anything the R would creep very slightly away

But the FRS is way better all round brakes handling and easy to get power and when modified its a different story FRS as standard was a shockingly horrible car to drive I found coming from a type R

FRS was a limited production run hence the high-ish residuals

ST is a mass production car so there will be a good supply and they'll lose monety hand over fist ( goody goody )

Nothing about the badge alone will make it hold it's value

Look at the amount of RS Turbo shitters that can be had for a few grand

I'm not knocking the RS, it's my choice too but your logic is flawed

As for your Fiesta as an example I think it was about Ł13k new so Ł4k now is hardly an investment is it

Thanks for all the response on this. It's hard to decide i know i'd rather own the FRS thats a fact. But it's just the extra 4k i'd be paying on top for a car of the same year/mileage etc.

Well once i find a FRS for sale in my area i'm going to take the dip try it out and give it a test drive. And who knows.....

Well it all depends on how long you plan to keep it? If it's about three years then the CTR will lose 4 grand more than the focus for sure

Quick Reply: Focus RS or Civic Type R??
