If you are legal you might have to pay it initially to get the car back but claim it back, get a receipt and preferably something in writing to say why they took it. Happened to a friend of mine who got her solicitor (and relative) involved, she got back the costs and inconvenience payment.

He's talking shit, stick to your guns and as long as your 100% right you'll be OK. Mate works for Enviromental, he's done dozens of cars that were legal, even crushed a few and the party line is to bullshit to intimidate the person into believing they are wrong/to blame

Create havock, phone the place that has the car and kick up stink. Get on to the police and again kick up stink. They dont have a leg to stand on and accept no bullshit. Explain that the car was wrongfully taken and you want it returned ASAP otherwise you're taking legal advice and claiming for inconvenience

Do you not carry your licence on you anyway? I do its only a small photocard type now so easy to prove your who you say you are and stops some toe rag having a spin in your car when it get to the police compound.

You should be able to claim it back - I couldn't be arsed in the end as I've got more important things to be doing with my time and I could do without the raised blood pressure, but still peed me off having to pay £105 recovery fee for my car!

Mate had an Alfa 146 crushed a few weeks ago, he was on a long term holiday and obviously didn't respond to the ticket, which with hindsight really shouldn't have been issued. He B/S the reason, as he's been taught

i had a car took off me cos a useless police division forgot to take it off pnc 2 years previous, they realised the mistake but kept it for a week to check it wasn`t a ringer , told them i wasnt payin any recovery or storage fee as it was out of my hands, 7days later got the car back didnt pay a penny

There must be more to it than this either on your side or theirs. Did you not show them your licence when they took the car? If so what did they say? Was the engine put in a legitimate car? (assuming you have had engine conversion into another car).

There must be some more grounds surely.

That stinks mate. If you can't afford a Solicitor then go to citizens advice, but perhaps you could find a solicitor that will take you on and claim the costs back fromt he police? Dunno if that's possible tho. best thing is to ring a couple and find out what's the score.

this happend to a mate of mine just go down local police staition with all your documents and show them that you have them and whats happend then they should phone up the recovery people and get your car back for free as this what my mate did where abouts did this happen because its happening all the time round leicester where me mate lives

look over your car when you get it back this happend to me about 1 year ago and they scufed my bumper and crack it on the loader tryed to claim but it didnt work

they wouldnt let me have car back untill she had spoke to a superior officer about it and made me wait 4 hours cos he was in a meeting

now i need good advice on how to get my days wages back and some cash for making me walk 4 miles home in the rain and renburse my mates wife for ferrying me about all day using her petrol

Picture this I run a motorbike shop, Mechanic goes out on a test ride on a brand new 50cc bike with No L plates Police pull him and take the bike of him as he is not driving in accordance with his licence issued to him I.E. not displaying L plates cost me £110 to get the bike back!!!

And the best thing is he has the correct licence juts it did not come up on the DVLA computer!!!!
