Default had a qoute for some welding on the cos.....

just got the car back and he says the welding is gonna cost £150-£200
i thought it would be more than that

the problem is that part of it is the rear sill, passenger side, the guy says to me untill he gets under to do the job he dont know if he's got enough room. says he might have to take the suspension arms off to get at it??? and reckons itl take hours so gonna cost more??

do you agree??

guy sounds like he knows what hes talking about....

Probably about 20 mins to get it off and another 20 mins to put it back on if he's taking it easy, I would think mate.

think the beam can stay in place just undo it wher it bolts into the chasis rails and can be pulled out the way for access to the sill. dont know if the right thing to do but have seen it done and would only take a few minutes to do..

It can only help if you get under there now and start spraying things with WD40

Anything anywhere near the hole to be welded, and any bolts holding any bits near there.

You won't do any harm if you spray something that does not need to come off.

If in doubt, spray everything!

You just need to hope that it will come off ok as I had an Escort that I tried to take the lower arm off on the front nearside and it just kept turning the bolt without doing anything

if he unbolts it and it sticks then he'll probably knock it off with a lump hammer or something. Won't do any damage so wouldn't worry about that.

Remember changing the rear shocks on another of my Escorts (I've actually had 3! ) and we weren't thinking, obviously, as we jacked it and put the axle stand under the rear arm, so then we couldn't push the arm down to dislodge the shock after unbolting it

That was a real amateur mistake
