Missus can't drive... advice?
ok, my missus CANT DRIVE FOR SHIT
now, i've tried pointin out all the things she's doing wrong buy she just cries and shouts at me.
its now getting to the point where i'm genuinely fearful for my life and the lives of other motorists when she gets in the car
she drives super-slow as it's "safe" and gets proper tunnel vision where she panics so much. she's now been driving 4 years and hasnt got better AT ALL since the day she passed
she's generally just terrified of driving, and this makes her panic and drive shit.
has anyone had any simialr experiences and know of any ways (maybe some courses to go on?) that helped? as its getting the the point where its affecting our relationship (she hates me for giving her advice, this winds me up because the silly bint don't listen, she ends up crying etc. etc. )

I'm not sure your "encouragement" or "advice" is the best course of action. You need somebidy more independent to go with her. Perhaps even her siblings/parents.
Im sure you dont mean to sound like your attacking her, but thats probably what he comes across as.

i also happen to drive NOTHING like the majority of women drivers, im sure people who know me would vouch for that, just a shame that the majority of women drivers give the rest of us who can drive such a bad name.....

ok guys, ive found the IAM website and i've put our names down to attend one of their meets, hopefully i can get her to go out with an IAM observer and they can tell her she's shit, maybe she'll believe them
also on the plus side, i quite fancy doing the advnced driving test etc. myself
recon i could learn a thing or two

Jim - i see it alot mate, has she been involved in an accident since she's been driving mate?
Perhaps she's had a bad experience with another motorist or something?
You cant just try & force her to drive without hesitation mate it'll just make her panic more as she'll feel like she's under pressure.
Maybe some proffesional tuition might help to build her confidence up?

I had the same problem with my ex- she's from Essex, dunno if that means owt like.
Sits TOO close to the steering wheel- if she'd got bigger tits she'd be steering with em, sits on a cushion because even though she's not short she MUST be able to see the front of the bonnet.
She constantly would abuse other drivers for cutting her up although she would do it to every other driver.
Sit on peoples arses flashing her lights at 110mph in her 1.8zetec escort which was sooo shonky as she never got it serviced and refused to let me touch it.
Undertake everything in sight.
Not looking ahead at what was going on up the road.
My favorite- getting lost, it was as if the whole world had just ended.. 1 turn too soon or similar and that was it, cant reverse, all reading skills and any rational thought went out of the window.
Even funnier still after 2 years of seeing me and I have known her 6 years now she still cannot reverse off my drive- which is 2 full car widths wide and has brick pillars that are in view of the mirrors.
RESULT-
I drove every where when ever we had to go out- even when we only had her car, even if I was in Essex and she had to direct me to where we had to go.
The reason for this was because she could not see that my driving was any better, due to me driving my well maintained cars with excellent mechanics and quality tyres quickly - strangely she used to moan when I was driving that I never talked to her much- funny that its called concentration. And yes I know I have faults in my driving and flaws and I'm not the worlds greatest driver.
Anyway I am sure someone will pick somet out of what I have written to moan about- just another example thats all.

Fortunately for me my g/f is very good. She has the confidence and drives well and just whinges about other drivers when she gets home.
My mum was a nervous driver after learning in her 20's and then not driving again until her 40's. She had some refresher lessons with an instructor but still insists on "feeding the wheel" at junctions which I think causes more panic than safety. She generally only drives to the supermarket though in her little micra. Confidence normally comes with time which is why the length of time your g/f (Jim) has been driving, it hasnt improved from what you are saying.

Advanced course Jim mate. My mum is the same. Can only drive autos and has a 'C' reg nissan micra thats only done 30000 miles. Dived it like its the most precious car ever. She thought it was good that she drove at 60 mpf on the motorway and overtook someone. Yes mum thats the idea
