Computer Bods
Evertime I turn on my pc it starts doing a check that seems to last forever
It comes up with Chkdsk/f.
Does anyone know how to turn the annoying little shit off?

run regedit go to the key
HKLM/software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/ and check the run and runonce keys for any chkdsk values and delete them.
Make a back-up of your registry begore doing any changes though Nath

Don't know how to, but IIRC someone once said it was to do with the Recovery Console.
Have a search on these sites and see if there are any threads about it.

Cheers Rich, I've done that and theres nothing in there
It only came to light when I went to do a defrag (about time to) and it wouldnt allow it, as it said something like Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume (C) Please run chkdsk/f.
When I hit chkdsk/f. in run it comes up that it cant find it in windows
If i put chkdsk in, it comes up with the same as what it does on start up ...its blowing my head apart
Thanks for the links Lynne

Have you actually let it run all the way through, when it's booting up, by the way? It's possible that something happened in Windows that triggered it needing a DiskCheck on bootup, and every time you cancel it, it reschedules it for the next time you bootup (my laptop does it every 30 boot-ups, but the Linux version takes nowhere near as long as the Windows version).
Of course, if you have let it run through once, and it's still doing it, ignore everything I said above!

It does it all the the time Dan. I did have someone play about with scan settings but have no idea as to what they done (or why
) but its only done it since they played with it .....
