Yes you would need an uprated pump at 400bhp assuming its a sapphire or a 3dr and NOT the Escort.

not nesacerily

the escort cosworth internal fuel pump needs to be upgraded, but the standard sierra external one does not.

however, people do upgrade them to 044 items for peace of mind, as 99% of the time, the fuelpump has been on the car since it was made and is likely to be getting tired

Hello the standard fuel pump will be on its knees at over 380bhp.You have to remember the pumps flow depending on volts and age,you may well see over 400bhp of fuel if the std pump is brand new with fresh wire, but it isnt certain for holding flat out in 5th gear wether you are maxing the pump out.

The standard Sierra fuel pump providing it is in good condition will be okay for the limits of a T3/4 .

I ran an engine dyno confirmed 385bhp for 2 years and then 419bhp for another year on a standard fuel pump that had done over 100,000 miles and did not have any issues.

All you have to do is a simple flow test to see if the pump is adequate or not. Obviously, this was over four years ago, and so the pumps are now even older, so it would be a good idea to at least have a new standard pump or if you wanted to pay the extra, an 044 pump . But simply stating that the standard pump is not up to the job is incorrect and misleading.

Mr Rainbird on a rolling road we had a std fuel pump maxing out at 380bhp since then we always say over that figure be safe fit a grp a variant. In no way was my information misleading, its about being SAFE.I resent your remarks.Although i may agree the T34 will be at its limits before the pump.

That proves NOTHING, the fuel pressure could have been down, the voltage to the pump could have been low due to old wiring, or the standard pump could have just been lazy due to it being 15 years old. It doesn't mean that a good condition standard pump is not up to the job, just because of one rolling road session with no further investigation . I do despair at some peole .

Fuel pressure was correct, wiring can not be adequately checked on a rolling road session i agree.I used to wonder why you saw so many YB's blown up,i am now getting the picture, people are over stressing componants because they cant afford to upgrade but have to have more BHP.The end result is disaster,do it properly, living on the edge is not all its cracked up to be.
