I would just get a basic Fiesta or Corsa until you can get that 1st years NCB. As a new driver you have next to no chance of getting a good deal on your insurance. My brother paid £1400 TPFT on his Nova 1.2 at 17

My parents wouldn't let me near their cars and said if I wanted a car I had to buy it and run it myself. At the time I moaned but I had an Escort RS Turbo at 19 Still got the fooker now as well

i'd agree with getting your own insurance if you can. its hard at first but im 20 now and ive got 3 years no claims. im now insuring a group 7 car fully comp for 700 quid!
if u shop about a lot u can get cheap insurance. i was getting crazy quotes when i was 17. in the end i managed to insure my 1.3 sr nova for £1100.
i knows it over double what the cars worth but not bad for a first years insurance really.
good luckw ith what ever u do, and remember the most important thing is to get on the road!
