Creaky steering!?
Notice this this morning when i went out in my escort gti.
Its just like at low speeds in car parks etc when you turn the wheel its like a creaky sound, not high pitch or anything though.
Power steering still feels fine and the car had been stood for 3 days, dont know if thats got anything to do with it.

Mine does this, been told its the rubbers on the strut tops. Bought all the parts from ford, inc new bearings nuts etc for about £25, yet to be fitted to 100% sure though.
Also sounds worse when its been sitting.

could be the top mount on the suspension.
my rover needs doing, but cant get the parts easily now .
its like a bearing that goes between the strut and the part that bolts to the turret.
its so the suspension can turn with the wheels.
probably the same thing as salmon said, and your escort might not even have any bearing, just rubbers. but it does sound like that is the problem.
