I sold the escort turbo this weekend
Im now in the market for my next car, i have some money saved but i am also in the fortunate position that i can get an interest free loan for any amount between 5-15k
alot of my friends have suggested going a different route and getting a different make, such as a bmw or an audi, but i have always liked fords and love taking my car to shows and being part of clubs and forums.
at the minute im trying to decide what to get from the following 4 options
sapphire cossie,
pros: cheapest, cheap performance, always wanted one
cons: oldest, unreliable, could end up spending a fortune just keeping it on the road
escort cossie:
pros: looks, the ultimate RS IMO, performance
cons: would be too paranoid about it, chance i may not have a garage when i move out, insurance.
Focus RS:
Pros: newer car, reliability, could use everyday
Cons: expensive, fwd, fast depreciation?
Focus ST:
pros: BRAND new car, all the toys, volvo engine very torquey
Cons: most expensive, depreciation, not 100% sure on looks
So there you have it, any opinions appreciated. what should i buy?

None of them mate
Get a new Astra VXR ive been out in one and they are
really naughty for a new car.
Failing that spend around 5-6k and get a really clean
saph mate, you may find one thats had a new engine
in it for that price

was considering a vxr, but not a fan of vauxhalls, also wanna stick with fords
saff seems the most cost effective option, as long as i dont keep having to throw money at it

ST from http://www.coast2coastcars.co.uk Ł16613 OTR
Blows a VXR away in every way. Superb Car
Cabin is so much better than the others in your list, you can use it, abuse it, leave it anywhere, it will have warranty and if you take all that into consideration will probably loose less than the others in terms of total spend 9 including fuel, spares/repairs, insurance, servicing and depreciation etc) apart from maybe the FRS or unless you get a cossie and nothing goes wrong and it dont rot

it will be an everyday car, sort of
can use the girlies fiesta to get to and from work, but will still use it quite often.
i have found my old escort rs turbo to be a very reliable evryday car for 3 years now, just wondering if i should expect the same from a saff
focus rs is very tempting, but it is 3x more expensive

on the hunt for the right saff, they go all the way up to 7k, so was thinking why not borrow more and get a FRS, then that opened a tin of worms
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
gonna stick with fords though, dont fancy an evo

Couldn't recommend the FRS enough, give it some more ponies and it's an absolute weapon. If it's a daily driver then I would personally rule out Cossies, if it was something to sit on the garage most of the time then I would say big spec Escos. As for ST and VXR, the FRS still rules as a drivers car and will hold it's ŁŁ FAR better.
If you could stretch a couple more grand I know of one with 4.3k on the clock, as new.

I'd be tempted by a Focus RS they hardly depreciate at all and look hard as fook, and go alright too
. But then again they are FWD and they just aint cossies are they
.

I wouldn't be buying another Ford, UNLESS it was the Focus RS and it was cheap enough.
Personally, and I agree with Westy, I'd be buying an EVO.
I certainly wouldn't be borrowing too much to purchase a car, as if you look around, you can get a lot of fun for your money.
More importantly, what do you want out of the car?
Performance, modding ability, convertible, track use etc?

I love the FRS and with a few mods its a very good car but Evo's if you can afford the running cost are a fair old weapon
FRS is very easy to live with but its no frills and isnt great on long journeys IMO

The Focus RS seems a fair bit of car for the money right now.
I've seen 03/53 plate cars with less than 20K for around the Ł14000 mark. Yes the price on them seems to be falling at the moment but I think it will level out quite soon.
If you want an ST best wait for 6 months to a year when there's likely to be more on the second hand market.

there are alot of FRS bargins to be had but a mint low mileage car will still command around 17k maybe a tadge less.. Plus alot of them are dropping out of warrenty... and the miles are starting to rack up...
ST is a great car way better spec its just not as hardcore and over time its value will drop like a stone ie like any other new car thats not angled at an enthusiast IMO
edit plus the ST wheels are trully minging

I think from your previous posts you at least need to go through the experience of owning a saph - if just to satisfy your curiosity.
I dont think reliability will be an issue for you so long as it is a decent, properly maintained car.
Other than looks, you dont really gain much else in a esc cos over a 4x4 saph except for the extra 7 - 8 k price tag and the smaller engine bay! I've been in a few esc cos's and as nice as they are I've never felt they are 7 - 8k worth nicer than a saph.
Saphs look hard which is what appealed to me

gonna view some saphs i think
maybe could stretch to a frs, but it is alot to borrow
just have to rack up the miles finding the right car

Sounds good to me Gregs, but at the end of the day people on here will have all kind of opinions
so the best thing to do is, test drive a saff, frs, and see what works for you........personally i`d have a mint 3 door
