ford s2 rs turbo gearbox modifications ? rebuilding
hi just wondering how many people repair their own gearboxes on here and what sort of advice to offer a competent mechanic to do such a task?
have just rebuilt my own bc box which has a sleeved mainshaft bearing as the old ford style one blew a hole through the box at high speed

just done my own very easy box the only thing i found difficult was putting the selector mech back in the right way quite fidilly.
i have had the shaft ground to take a sleeved bearing so if i do need to do any work to the box in the future it can be replaced with ease as if the old bearing style shaft was worn that meant replacing the whole shaft itself

I've usually just used a IB5 sleeved bearing, then you don't need to grind the shaft, just machine the casing for the bigger bearing. Ground shafts are known to break easy.

will see how it goes on the ground shaft first if the engine destroys it then its ib5 all the way cheers
