went a couple of years ago and absolutley loved it. was only there for 5 days, and it was bit of a rush to get everything done. As Mr Brannen said, i went to Ground Zero, and i too found it very fasciinating. just kinda sat there for about an hour trying to take it all in. Greenwhich village was good, very arty farty! of course the obligatory trip to staten island etc, also very interesting.
..oh and the shopping ROCKS!

Have a chat with fastmaul... He lives in NJ which is just over the river. Sound bloke too.
Wouldn't bother going to the statue of liberty, don't think you can go up it any more. The empire state building is really cool even better if you can go up with some one who knows where everything is.
If you dont mind walking walk up broadway to central park, have a look around there it is the most serene place I have ever been. Really wierd. Walk about 100 yards into it and you wouldn't believe that your in such a busy place. It's just totally quiet and tranquill
From there walk back down 5th. At the top of 5th (Just on the edge of central park) is the toy shop where big was filmed. The scene with the massive keyboard. You'll love it

Had the most excellant time there would love to go back
Taxis are very good value for money but depending on where you are staying and how far away from the main sights the tube is also handy
I also went on a bus tour of which they have several which was brilliant and you can get on and off at different stops which is pretty good
The Empire state building is a must and walking down 5th ave is an eye opener you must take you missus to Tiffanys now that just amazing
Hope you have a fantastic time

Been there 4 or 5 times now I know my way around NY better than London
IMO i would never catch a taxi as i jump on the tube all the time! Though Taxis do come in handy in the night if u want to pop from one place to another with no fuss! imo my fav area is down town soho area etc with all the nice little shops and bars etc.

I like NY, go about 3 times a year. Was last there in November and I stayed up for 3 days without sleep.... ouch. This is the view out of my mates apartment at about 5am. We were still drinking
It was a VERY heavy weekend we were so drunk we dressed up and pretended we were in a band for some reason
Do one of the bus tours around the city. Takes about 3 hours and is well worth doing. You can get on and off etc... and the helicopter ride around the statue of Liberty is wicked as well.
As for shopping make sure you go to the Diesel store, the Nike store and the Abercrombie and Fitch store is my fav shop in the world. Great music, great location and the worlds fittest shop assistants. They are ALL supermodels!!!!

I've got a slightly different pic of Central Park - taken in January 2003!
It's really strange with Central Park, you can stand in the middle and be in what looks like proper countryside and yet you can still hear the car horns and hustle and bustle of the city just a short way away!

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
i stayed at the warwick last year and its a fantastic place, got an upgrade to a suite as well cos our room was wrong, best places to shop are bloomingdales, macys and century 21 which is opposite ground zero, macys and bloomys offer a non us resident 11 percent discount, just go to customer services with your passport, carnegie deli is great near carnegie hall for food and theres a good bar in the basement of macys (sky sports !!!), the subway is a good way to get around and if u get a daily metro card its dead cheap, cabs are cheap too and you should definately get the staten island ferry which stops at liberty island its free and the views are amazing, have a great time !

Porkie shame you didn't call me when you were here last would have been good to meet up. OH, I don't think you should go to the Giants game, since they lost when you went. (If you did go)
This is from my side of the water
Porkie, I'm guessing your mate lives in one of those?? He must have some deeeeeeep Pockets!
Here's a tip for you guys. When you go to Ground Zero, go down to the Path train and take it to Exchange Place (1 stop and 5 mins from where I live) take the escalator up and walk outside, look at NYC from my side. It's something most don't think about doing. Plus if you do it during the day time when you take the Path back into WTC you can actually see inside Ground Zero better. I know, I take it 5 days a week. I'll gladly meet up with anyone though. No Problems.

I have been meaning to go to NY for the past three years - maybe this year I will actually do it!!!! Even if I can just get out there for 5 days - I just wanna wonder up and down some of the streets and check out the buildings! See a few views, visit the famous places : central park, empire state, staten(sp) island, madison square garden, time square, etc...
How expensive are we talking for a hotel room for 5 nights? I'm probably going on my own ( ) and would try n make it out for late Sept/early Oct.... Flights aren't that cheap either
