Very sad to hear this mate.

How long was you running the gasket for and what other damage has resulted from the gasket fault?

Bests - Sunny.

Sunny

The car wasnt even fired up

Water was coming from the side of the gasket as it was made with an imperfection in it. Therefore damaging the head and block.

Tiff - might sound a bit daft but I am confused as to how it can damage the head and block if it wasn't fired up mate?

Either way mate.....I hope you get it sorted.

Sunny

When the head was torqued down onto the gasket and the block, the imperfection caused it to damaged the 2 surfaces

I'm guessing that a part of it was not level therefore when it was tightened down it put pressure on the head and block, therefore leaving indents on the head and block ?

Tiff am I right ?

It is all in hand mate

But my argument is, who is paying for the un-nessesery damage that was caused by the faulty gasket?

Tiff...unfortunately the injectors from Bosch are NOT meant for the application used!!!!!.....If for example a Dark green failed that would be as far as Bosch are concerned on a Porsche 944 Turbo...now that would NOT damage a std motor....These are modified cars and NO garantee applies except for the part itself.

Sorry, welcome to the world of tuning If you have issues keep the car standard...sorry.

all well and good, as you correctly state injectors etc are generally a universal part, used on many different applications, hence cannot be held responsible for faults/damage, BUT a COMETIC head gasket is designed SPECIFICALLY for use on a cosworth engine, and should therefore carry a suitable warranty, as it is a FAULT with the MATERIAL used to manufacture the gasket, hence causing the damage so cometic have a responsibility for the damage as THEIR faulty product caused damage on correct application of a faulty gasket

Just to give a quick run down on the problems found so that anyone using a cometic gasket in future can double check this!

After I had rebuilt the engine using a cometic gasket the first thing I did was refill the coolant system. After I had filled it I noticed water leaking down the block. Upon inspection its was coming from the side of the head gasket.

Thus I stripped the engine again and indentations were found in the head face and block. Upon examining the gasket it was found that the seperate fire rings that sit in the middle of the 3 layers were slightly larger in diameter than the cut out in the middle layer!!!! This was causing the fire ring to sit slightly proud and thus hold the head up enough to leak. However it damaged the head and block in the process.

It's not an easy fault to spot and I didnt before fitting it even though I visually checked the gasket over. The three layers are quite loose and thus I doubt I would spot the fault again until the head is torqued down!! Unless you actually pull the outer layers apart to view the centre layer and fire rings its almost impossible to detect! (And its not a good thing to start pulling the steel layers apart with a new gasket!!)

Thus everyone BEWARE!!!!

As a summary I pulled the engine out machined both the block and head faces and rebuilt with a genuine Mountune gasket! Its now 100% perfect again no thanks to Cometic!!

Hope this small bit of info may save someone elses engine, allthough it does seem to be a rare fault!!

Wil...no modified parts are warrantied..except the part itself.....UNLESS its a std engine!

I bought a cam belt kit for my Transit from FORD and they warrantied it for 60000 miles!!!So if it snaps they will fix the engine ...To avoid any complications re fitting..i got them to do it!!!Cause thats the only way a warranty will work..LOL.

Karl..i'd say you made a mistake!!!!!I know i was paranoid i would get the line up wrong on the Cometic..and i could see you could easily not line it up perfect!!!!!!But hey blame the gasket..LOL...NO DISRESPECT..but even genius's can fook up.

LOL Phil, the gasket was at fault. If I had made a mistake I would simply have repaired it and not bothered warning people of this fault.

I know of someone who had race logic traction controll on his RX-7. apprantly the system in some way caused the engine to blow.....due to stoping fuel or something (I dont kznow the details) . Anyway, AFAIKR racelogic footed the bill for the rebuild....
