Default Sky+ Update

I got my new box yesterday (after I blew the last one up) and it has the old menus. When can I expect it to update, or do I have to do something to it?

Also, I got a different box to last time and this has a USB port on the front, what's that for?

unplug it, hold the backup button in, then plug it back in...
keep hold of the button until all the lights come on, screen will display update in progress...

The usb port is for future features, such as plugging in a game pad etc.

When i spoke to sky about a problem i was having i asked them about it and they said it will eventually get used but they havent released anything yet.

Same as the interactive card slot. Apparantly they are going to start using that soon.

This will give you the the latest software - but the EPG is automatically updated by Sky - mine went over last night, so you get channels 311, 312 etc - the new HD ones.

I love the fact that they have put the hd channels up there already, great marketing spin.

I wonder when they are eventually going to release the units themselves

Thanks guys.

I can't be bothered to make it update at the moment, might do it in the morning.

I can't take the PS2 off it, just wait until I get the rest of my stuff replaced and all that will be going back on it lol. So far I prefer this box to my old one in terms of looks, and the last one never had a USB port.

When the guy came he said this box has been upgraded to have a 40hour HD? I thought 40hour was the standard one. I weren't there so I don't know.

How can they show HiDef stuff with an HiDef box???

the channels will be the same for any box, the reason the channels are there is to spin punters up to purchase the hd units when they come avaliable.

Does it have a HDMI or component out sockets on the rear? My understanding of HD is that you will only be able to watch it through the above mentioned sockets

The new boxes have been in developemtn with sony and they have their won special socket, have a look at the back of a new sony hd tv and youll see the one i mean.

I assume they will bring out convertors to fo from this socket to a normal dvi/vga or component.

like any new technology will be pretty expensive at the beginning with not a lot of choice on channels and probably to some extent dodgy hardware/software. But after a year or so, the channel choice will be much better and more stable hardware/software.

I wont be buying one when they first come out, prob wait 6 - 12 months.

Yeah, good idea.

Only problem is though having a Plasma TV the picture quality isn't that good from my Sky box compared to a DVD. Oh well, just wait about longer I guess.

I guess it wouldn't hurt if you want to wait.

How do you find the rear projection? When I have seen them in the stores you have to look at it square on to see it

Hardly see them now.

i love it, i think the qual it better than a lot of plasmas ive seen. Had it 2 years now and cant really fault it. You do have to be fairly square on but that isnt an issue for me. The new sony one is very good, got the bloke in the shop to demo it for me

52" tv high def for the cost of a non high def plasma. cant be bad.

The Sky + box will need to go on the top, then vents to let the air out are on the top, and mustn't be obstructed
