Wiring loom experts...???
Can you offer any advice as far as colour choices are concerned for use in a new loom.
I was planning to use a different colour for each part of the loom except common points like the sensor earths and injector feeds.
Is there any advantage to using seperate colours throughout?
The only one i can see is that should you ever need to open the loom due to damage for example, then you would easily be able to identify the damaged wires....
But as my loom is less than a metre long, im wondering if its still worthwhile or not....
I cant see it likely to get damaged, as its just not long enough to get damaged by anything....
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the replies...
Ryan,
As an example, i just removed my cossie loom and completely stripped it apart.
There's obv different colours running to the various senders, different colours to each injector and some common colours for earths and power supplies etc etc, I can see that its obv important to differentiate between lives, earths and sensor wires but are you saying otherwise there's no real need to have any other colours???
Fudgeass,
Cable markers? do they throughout the cable or just at the ends?
Only ask as i was wondering what would happen if you had to open the loom mid way, would you still know what wire it was???
It seems to me that it would be very easy to make my loom using a handful of colours to seperate lives, earths and sensors instead of different ones for evrything, although i wonder if the latter is a better way of doing it for longevity.

Most faults occur at the terminations/connector/component so colour coding doesn't really help IMO.
You'll find most common components (ACT, ECT) on a Pectel loom have the same colour wires at the connector...

easier to trace wires back to the corrrect sensors but could that make it easier to trace the wires to hot wire it or bypass immobilisers??

Cosrush
Yeah basically no reason other than:
Basically ford used colours for ease and for easy checking.
I.e browns with black/white/green/blue traces for earth trigger. etc etc etc
I use cable markers but only at ECU end, mainly because 30 pink wires gets very confusing.

use one colour wire for the earth for all sensors incl injectors as well as the main earth,
use say Red for the supply to sensors/injectors (whether its 5v or 12v) and say Green for all the sensor returns to ecu???
