Wapster Needs Help
Ok dude
Well the M3Evo . is a great car
I had the E36 Evo Cabriloet
However the E36 has issues with the DOUBLE VANOS unit which is the head magic works etc
These are PRONE to going on high milers and its a Ł2k job etc
However many were done under recall in the first 3 years etc so if you buy one make sure its had the work done if not bear it in mind
The easiest way to check is ask a dealer to bring the history up on the car it should all be detailed ..
M3 Great car somewhat thirsty with a 3.2 Engine and EATS rear tyres

E36 (One Before the latest one) had a problem with the adjustable cam system. My buddy has one of the very last, and luckly it had already been replaced.
Basically he bought a mint, full service history car with 36,000 miles on the clock. But at 33,000 it had needed to have its adjustable cam timing (Similar to V=TEC, but BMW Called it something else) all replaced at a cost of 1600 quid. The BMW wouldn't foot the bill, even though it was a common problem on the early cars. Basically listen for a tappety sound when cold. If it dissapears within a couple of seconds, then that's normal, but if it last longer than about ten seconds it's going to need replacing.
I'm sure if you go onto the BMW Web site, they'll give you the low down on this and confirm it's a common and very expensive problem. By the way, 1,600 was for the parts alone, this didn't include the labour.
Great cars, if you get a good one.

If this is the model your looking at, let me know, as this particular car is up for sale as the guy is buying an M5. Believe me, you won't find a better example than this one as well. He does concourse with it and has plenty of trophys. It's totally standard, and mint with 41,000 on the clock at the moment.
I'm sure he's after about 13,000 for it, which is a great price for a concourse car.
I have some pics of it if your interested.
E-Mail me at didseco1@princess.com and I'll put you in touch if you want.
Personally I'd stick with the Cossie's, but the M3 has always been very tempting so I know exactly how you feel.
My Cossie blew the arse off though

Hi Pops,
Sorry, I'm in a rush and didn't have chance to read the whole thread.
At the moment I'm in an e-mail station in Ketchikan (Alaska),
Due back in October.
At the moment Jock off the site is also in the same port onboard his boat (Gin Palace). We had a couple of beers last week and he still owes me so I'm waiting for him to pop round to my floating palace later today.
Small World Isn't it.
