Default remember 5th gears 200mph challenge?

well, i sent this to the email address provided:

Subject: Lotus - 200+mph Sierra

Hi there, just wondering why there was so little time devoted to the Sierra on last nights show.
The powers that be deemed that there could be plenty of time to fit in chav'd up rides that no one in their wildest dreams could ever run yet the "sensible" cars that turned up to the top speed runs got barely a minute all on.

I can appreciate that not everyone wants to look at a Sierra, no matter how quick it goes and how reliable it is, but if there had been as much time spent showcasing all 3 cars rather than Tiff's disasterpeice of a Lotus, the people behind them could have got the recognition they so richly deserved. The Corolla got more air time.

It seems to me that, while informing us of the cost of the parts, the labour costs weren't mentioned in the total's. So this experiment has cost even more than you've budgeted for?

It's not a dig at the people who make the show, it's just that you could have made it a lot more informative and spent a few minutes on each car rather than squeezing it all into a 30 second slot at the tail end of the show. You could also have given out some info about where these top speed runs took place and who organized them and if they would be open to the public and that sort of thing. The whole section was supposed to show that you didn't need to be a millionaire to get to 200 mph, but then you've ruined it all by showing, what amounts to a bunch of toffs, running up and down the airfield in their hyper-cars. You have only succeeded in doing exactly what you set out to disprove.

One more thing. Why didn't the Norris car take part in that 200+ run?

If someone has read this then fine, it's been worth typing it out. I don't think Top Gear are worried just yet, but the show is getting better week by week.

and just now, i recived this reply:

Thank you for contacting Fifth Gear with your opinions. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed most of the last series of Fifth Gear and I'm sorry to hear that this piece did not meet with your expectations. We really appreciate your feedback and all of your comments will be taken into consideration by the production team.

Fifth Gear will be back on the 10th April, but in the mean time don’t forget to visit the website for regular updates on our filming progress: it's the only place you'll get a sneak preview of the next series!

Best wishes,

Suzanne Tennant

Fifth Gear

so, has anyone else had any feedback or have i missed the post altogether?

Thinking about it, it really was a shocking feature

they chose possibly the worst car to modify and obviously chose the wrong people to modify it , Throw in the lack of exposure for the people that the masses really wanted to see ( i.e Rod and the other road cars that could get to 200mph, well 1 of them at least )

Really was total cock

I thought the sierra got a reasonable amount of airtime considering it was just "an extra" to the main plot as it were.

The thing i thought was disgusting was that instead of saying

"Today Rod's car will be driven by the legendary Mark Shead, the tuner of many of europes fastest road legal cars and owner of MA Developments"

They said
"Today Rods car will be driven by his mate mark who helped build it"

It made Mark sound like a postman who at the end of his shift bolted a few random bits onto Rods car, didnt even vaguely give him the credit he deserved.

Not only that, but he was then coined "a bloke in a cardigan"...

Gave us loads to abuse Mark with , but in the overall scheme of things, it's quite appalling really...

It could have gone something like this:

"After work, Rod's mate mark tootled over in his van with the new bits he'd bought on eBay. After a brew and a read through the Sun, Mark got on the internet and got some advice about fitting the blinging monster turbo he had come across. Now wearing his trusty cardigan, blending enthusiasm with the bit of knowledge they had, Mark and Rod set about turning the old Ford into a DIY monster, capable of 200+ mph. Not bad for a couple of mates in a garden shed....."

PMSL, I have a folding chair that I lent to Rod at Castle Coombe in the summer. He only gave it back to me last week, so I bet it's been up into silly figures a few times, and I have to say, putting it up on eBay did cross my mind

PS: Chip, have you ever considered it might just be Mark's lucky charm ???
